There is no limit on the max number of slots, Maelstorm's script is extremely easy for me to understand and edit to my needs. You could try poisoning others early to regulate population growth. But then they poison you and you lose again :( What I did was grab a decent sized plot of land somewhere, and grow a huge bunch of plants.
