Re: Borderlands 2

snipers are problematic anyway.. I mean they are the perfect gun in a shooting game where you have wide open spaces... You'd either have to limit the open space in levels or make sniper bullets real hard to find. Also if the game had awesome snipers pf ots own sniping you how are you suppose to dea...

Re: Borderlands 2

Stalker is pretty close to my ideal. At the ranges most conflicts occur in Borderlands sniper rifles are kind of silly. In BL snipers are more headshot challenges than they are resembling of anything in more realistic tactical combat. Granted this is true of most games these days... but I'm not a gi...

Re: X-COM

Apparently the whole game isn't as linearly scripted as the demo missions, looks like they botched the demo by all accounts. But it's got much much smaller squad sizes than the original... On squad sizes: I've heard many argue this is a positive thing. In my opinion it's sacrificing strategy for ta...

Re: Couple of Questions. Possible Game Engine Move....

No, its never more work for the artist. Its always more work for the Devs, to the feature request board.. this one shall walk the plank.. Actually, spring already has that feature, it's just not exceptionally easy to use. Especially considering spring's animation format. FireDemon: Smoth's answers ...

Re: Borderlands 2

I didn't like Borderlands too much, and they didn't change the things that bothered me about #1. I like that Borderlands exists, I like that there is a popular mainstream AAA game that has procedurally generated content as it's main selling point... It's just not the style of gameplay I find fun tho...

Re: X-COM

It reviews extremely well for a PC game... but then, at some level PC gamers have a huge case of abused Dog syndrom, where if someone gives you a biscuit we'll happily take a few slaps to the chops, as long as it's not too particularly cruel. To me: it looks fun, but it's a bastardization of what X-...

Re: Torchlight 2 vs Diablo 3

Quite a few critics, speaking of BL2 have basically said "If you liked borderlands 1, you will like borderlands 2 even more, and if you hated BL1 BL2 probably hasn't done enough to win you over." I think that's probably the most potent thing I've seen. I found the shooting in BL1 anemic an...

Forboding, seriously now. It wasn't 5 years ago when I told you that wifi security relying on MAC address whitelisting is retarded and now you're trying to torrent safely by blocking individual IP addresses. edit: found it Eeheheh, well, MAC address white listing. Silliness. However, in this case, ...

Re: Pathing

That last one with the weaving flashes legitimately made me WOW out loud. I can't think of another game/engine with pathfinding that good. I've seen better pathfinding in academic demos, but yeah, game engine's in general don't tend to utilize what is really available in the field. Looks awesome by...

Re: uTorrent

Ofc everyone uses block lists. But they are not as effective as you like! A recent british study showed, that companies are monitoring torrent traffic especially around music and movies. IP blockers seem to be ineffective against them. Study: http://www.cs.bham.ac.uk/~tpc/Papers/P2PMonitor.pdf Arti...

Re: Faster Than Light

Trade and economics are WAY underrepresented compared to what I was hoping this game would do. I'm absolutely glad that that stuff isn't in the game. If it was like X3 you'd spend 10 hours farming the trade lanes before you can even engage your first enemy. FTL is great because of the feeling of &q...

Re: Escapist Expo videos

I watched a few of them. I'll agree with gota in that they aren't groundbreakingly full of amazing unheard of wisdom's that all game developers should immediately take heed of; but I kind of think it's unrealistic to expect that. I appreciated the sense of humor, although there were times it was cra...

Re: Faster Than Light

It's almost like professional jealousy going on here. Only people are not actually making money off of the games they make. Or have a stable playerbase. Why so bitter guys? I don't like the ethics of what they did. They kickstarted a moderately in progress project asking for 10,000 dollars, and whe...

Re: Faster Than Light

I'm incredibly disappointed with the lack of depth of the campaign. Don't get me wrong, the combat is spectacular, and the random encounters are compelling, but the backers on the kick starter put SO much more money than the team was asking for for this game. They had the tools they needed to flesh ...

Still looking for an intelligent game reviewer who can cut to the chase, talk to the point and have a similar taste in games as i do. I agree. I watch a fair bit of TB, but when he starts talking about puzzle games or FPS movement mechanics I want to punch the screen. Game reviewers in general tend ...

I support this, but the spring lobby system and the fact that we have made the project so modular in how it loads mods/maps/ai and what not, has held back projects wanting to do this type of thing in the past. Our structures are currently a bit too much free as in free beer where as steam works bet...
