Re: NOTA 1.62

a very popular starcraft commentator once said ' you will see the same units almost every game, but its the order in which they get those units that matters' if you start including too much specialisation, there will be too many hard counters imo. whilst there are counters to different strategies, ...

Re: NOTA 1.62

During my whole NOTA play I am yet to see a new persistent strategy. I agree, sometimes other starts work, but most of the time they either require help from another player (i.e. huge amount of resources), or they simply happened because the other player failed to take advantage of his position (i.e...

Re: NOTA 1.62

Night, you argument is a bit silly tbh, what Edible proposes is a change to current gameplay, which is, at the moment, nearly linear, and very-very predictable. Most of the time you can tell who is going to get sea even before the actual game loaded. And imo, its good to at least change the sea a bi...

Re: XTA future

Tbh, one of the options that XTA community has, is to completely re-vamp XTA and brand it as a new mod. Considering that most of the TA models were re-modelled and hence the IP fuckup is no longer a problem, making a standalone XTA release would also bring a lot of new players. Simple balance tweaks...

Re: NOTA 1.62

It would be nice to see different versions of the ships, but I personally do not want to see such a huge difference, i.e. sub hunter / etc. Even if different, ships should still be of the same class and have similar role, its just commander's choice how to tune them better. A few suggestions : Subs ...

Re: Detailed crawler/spider model pics included

I think a needle coming out at a similar angle as the final leg joints (where cones are attached to it seems) would suit the model a lot better. Not reading description as such, the model looks like scout/something fast. Is it possible to make units automatically jump in spring, if there is an obsta...

Re: Reactions about 'Official stance on how [...] AIs'

It should be noted, that even if you release a section of code under gpl, you as the author (and still owner) can reuse the code however you wish in whatever future projects you may work on, proprietary or not as you are still the owner. If someone else contributes to your code though, you can not ...

Re: Is Spring for me?

If you have 0 experience coding, and want to see results of your coding right in a game, try Colobot...

Its not RTS, but it is specially made for newbies who want to start coding with visual results.

Engines arent newbie-friendly... I havent seen one that is.

Re: Boost Rushing

Pxtl's idea is good IMO. What about spawning a nanotower near the comm at the beginning with boost charge assigned to nano rather than the com? Can even make it auto self-D after boost runs out. That way you can still rush frontline, but without the boost perks. Edit : or, if not happy with full boo...

Re: DWARF FORTRESS

Bronze is better weapon metal than soft iron, harder edge, longer lasting.

The misconception comes from the fact that most of the things we call "iron" is actually steel nowadays.

Re: Discriminatory Repair WIP, ideas?

Engine change, but a sensible one :

Apply damage/armor modifiers to the repair speed.
If 0 damage/repair is dealt on a certain armour the action is aborted.

Many games do that way, I am surprised that spring does not have such capability while providing armour system already.

Re: Co-op map editing in realtime.

Could someone explain why would 16 players join in a map and start editing it, like whats the goal of it? Its actually very common for games with collaborative editing/creation. Cube2 has about 20% of the server population which is in coop editing modes (checked it about a year ago with 12 samples ...

Re: Bicycles

Mountain bikes become waste after about 5 km distances. You want roadbikes up to 10-15km, and trek bikes for anything more than that. The range is determined mostly by how fast you get tired, mountain bikes usually have a lot of friction and are not optimised for high speeds and cruising. The "...

Re: Co-op map editing in realtime.

Well given I have only visual experience and some basic common sense (which never works for anyone), the CA way of changing the texture was done for all players, it can be used to paint the texture while online with different players. After everyone is done the map can have some "compile" ...

I recall CA having a new texture for terraformed piece. Add some engine code to dump the final texture and it should be possible.

Spring needs to have a proper clan system, where a person could register his clan, and decide who can or who cannot wear a tag (of course standardised tagging should also be implemented). Otherwise you will end up with smurf battles.
