It crashes when I do nothing (gamespeed 8.0, crash report http://ww.fmf.nl/~teake/spring.zip ), it crashes when I build normally (at gamespeed 1.0, no crash reports so far). In short, it has crashed everytime I've played. At the moment of the crash of one Spring client, big grey clouds appear from o...

Spring crashes after +/- 10 minutes of LAN game
After about ten minutes of a LAN game Spring crashes, each and every time I tried it. I get a nice window with "Spring has encountered a problem and will have to be shutdown", and before I can submit a description of what happened Spring completely dies and I'm back at an empty desktop. Th...

I got the code! On to compiling ...
I don't like setting up my own repository; that's just too much trouble. Luckily the CVS manual on SF.net was good to me and gave me the following: cvs -d:pserver:anonymous@cvs.sf.net:/cvsroot/springrts export -Dtomorrow taspring This does the job just fine (if you have a CVS client at hand). So all...

How do I compile Spring from the current CVS tree ?
I'm not quite sure if this is the right place for my question, but here goes: With all the frequent bug-hunting going on, I'm interested in obtaining a working copy from the most recently updated sourcecode. My first guess would be to checkout all files from the SF CVS, and then compile them. The on...

While digging through the CVS-tree I found a developer readme / guide , stating that spring lacks (amongst others): Game GUI (SJ) The current GUI in Spring isnt that good however there exist a new gui that is almost finished. Unfortunally Pius that was working on it disapeared some months ago so we ...

When you tell the commander to browse the build menu with O or B, disable all other hotkeys. Simple as that. Press escape to get out of that mode, or click somewhere. I think that would be a bit too confusing. And after all, how many keys do we have on our keyboard? 101? It should certainly be poss...

keyboard shortcuts for browsing the build menus
I'm not sure if it was in OTA, but it's certainly in Switeck's bugfix , and I think it's lacking in Spring: keyboard shortcuts for browsing the build menus. With the , and . keys you could go back and forth in the build menus of the selected unit, and with q,w,e,r,f,v keys you could select build men...

Right, I suspected as much. Let me adjust my proposal: can we have a pseudo-strafe button that first changes the unit's direction so that is it perpendicular to the camera direction, and then starts walking forward / backward?
That way it is effectively a strafe button, and I just dig strafe buttons.

While we're posting request for the FPS mode, here's mine: change the walking keys to forward / backward / strafe left / strafe right, and enable true mouselooking (i.e. walk in the direction the camera is facing). Perhaps that way you'll have some benefit from taking control of a unit (for example,...
