using versions smaller than the one set globally should always result in errors anyhow, anything else might just as well stop testing/bug reporting/etc altogether

It's simply not possible with the way spring packing is setup atm. One of you guys would need to take a hint from for example the kernel image debs and change spring packaging accordingly.
