Re: SpringRTS Organizational specification
I've added Anarchid to the SPI liason of "finances" as there have been no direct objections so far and we need to handle it. The next thing is we need to figure out who decides how Spring money is spent. Imo a group of around 5 people is required, and I would prefer if they could be chose...

Re: Would bipedal mechs actually be useful?
why have bots at all? Just have a grassroots army of humans and make the opening move of war a blanketing EMP strike! googled and found this armor made with conductive materials and surge protectors may make military hardware very hard to damage with EMP. unprotected civilian gadgetry with sensitiv...

Re: springlobby feature request : show other players' lobbie
this seems a small tweak to the lobby. The time spent here arguing about it could have been used to do the fix. no. the time spent here should be used to make it in a clean way. because of such hacks the code of springlobby some time ago was in a state where it was close to unmaintainable. slippery...

Re: springlobby feature request : show other players' lobbie
It should be visible in the lobby user list. You could add a new lobby id to the protocol later and deprecate the old field when no longer in use. = add a hack now and remove it later -> double amount of work. i don't have the time to do such things, so: i'm against such hacks, they prevent/block a ...

Re: springlobby feature request : show other players' lobbie
as far as i know lobbies already have help->about, but having to ask people is another step. If all lobbies stick to that hack consistently, maybe it can become a feature. Maybe it already is. Other lobbies did it. Call it lobby id in the code. It shouldn't matter much if it is based on a protocol f...

springlobby feature request : show other players' lobbies
There should at least be an option to show the lobby other players are currently using. this would make helping new players easier. as of now, if someone asks "are you using springlobby?", the other person may understand "are you using a spring lobby?", think to itself "wtf&...

Re: ZK lobby server split is a disaster?
I'm not sure if disaster is the right word. But i think it is bad for the spring community as a whole. I've recently started to play zk, and despite cursing the game at times it's still pretty fun... and has an active player base with games running all the time. Now on the official server there isn'...

Re: SpringRTS Organizational specification
Single leaders have the plus as tie breakers and can be more decisive and consistent, but can do more harm than good to the community if they are biased toward friends, etc (which is likely). It's also a burden no one should have to bare (namely unpaid people). In general, i agree we should have a c...

Re: Smoth's unnamed game concept dump/discussion/bestest ide
stuff in your games looks more realistic than in TA-like games. Realistic looking stuff behaving realistically means long weapon ranges (imo).
What ranges are you going to use on weapons?
short-range
med-range
long-range
short-range is what, 250? 350? 450?

Re: smoth's junk.
yes, it has some military complex flavour to it. spring games where units are unable to shoot through friendly units seem to favor defensive turrets that are taller than the units around them. Those are flat and wide. May look weird when built on top of a cliff and have to shoot at targets on lower ...

Re: Should the XTA move to propilkki?
I am with Jools here, after seeing that thread, Abma had no business locking that thread. That forum is under the purview of the xta forum mods only, and unless something larger is going on, regular forum mods should butt out. I agree that Abma shouldn't have locked that thread, but it doesn't seem...

Re: Feedback on portable spring on windows.
portable versions reading stuff from user directory makes testing easier, though you can download a portable test version and run it and have the maps and games ready to use. (and as far as i know, it can use both if you create games and maps directories within the portable directory and put stuff i...

Re: 99.0-RC1
Tested and it seems to be working. I agree with jamerlan, the LOS colors are a bit too bright. Other than that, it's great! Looks smoother and updates faster. Now you can spawn a fighter, order it to move and it won't outrun its "fog of war" circle. There's this issue with non-gunship airc...
