Re: Autohosts operating non-downloadable engines
I understand that time is scarce and that maintaining a legacy engine is probably not worth it, hence the question on the time cost of doing so. I am happy that Spring is moving forward, but I am concerned about the cost of doing so. Is having BA players on a different server better than having them...

Re: The end of the maintenance branch
Why do I get the feeling that people pushing for Github suffer from the "There is only GitHub" condition? Tell me, can I make SpringLobby automatically open GitHub issues without having the lobby user create a GitHub account? Can I move GitHub issues between repos? Can I save GitHub issue...

Re: Autohosts operating non-downloadable engines
Actually, old hardware and to a lesser extent, Mac, are a problem. How much effort would it be to have a 104-legacy branch that is sync-compatible to 105 but without post-103 graphics? I don't think players on perfectly working old hardware will upgrade it on a large enough scale, just because sprin...

Re: The end of the maintenance branch
Going from Mantis to GitHub issues would be a step back, not forward. What we you need is a custom bugtracker where players can submit issues in the lobby clients. A single bug tracker for the engine and all the lobby clients/games, where issues are then sorted to whom they belong (sub-trackers?).

Re: The end of the maintenance branch
I recognise that Abma is the weak link and that something must be done , but not by increasing dependency on proprietary services. GitHub is not the only service out there, similar features are offered by GitLab and SourceHut, which are (respectively) semi and fully free software and can be self-ho...

Re: Autohosts operating non-downloadable engines
Yes, this applies to actually unmaintained autohosts that nobody uses. Everything that is on the official host should be downloadable, but it is not Forb's problem that -1344- has been deleted. -1344- should be restored back. Since, evidently, noone has time to write a proper auto-delete script, the...

Re: Autohosts operating non-downloadable engines
Wonderful, cannot comment on closed mantis issues. So I write my comment here: The same issue will happen again post 105. Or rather, it will continue happening, since this apparently wont ever be fixed. Everyone with time & willpower to fix issues does not have access to do so. Everyone with acc...

Re: The end of the maintenance branch
Everything can be ported given enough time. The problem is that this increases dependence, and when dependence is sufficiently increased, the time required to do the porting results in a de-facto vendor lock-in. I have nothing against cloud workers, they should just be used in an easily portable wa...

Re: The end of the maintenance branch
I recommend against further increasing dependence on proprietary services. Instead, use something FOSS, like Gitlab or some other stuff, perhaps even a self-hosted slave to a FOSS service. Gitlab also supports auto-sync with GH, so it should work hassle-free.

Re: Autohosts operating non-downloadable engines
Ok, so because I picked the wrong side in BA9-vs-BA10 I am a BA-centric whiner and all my posts are complaining. If you had read my posts then you might have noticed I was upset what effect the BA-ban etc had on other games, too. MF and S1944 I mentioned as "other games", I see no ...

Re: Autohosts operating non-downloadable engines
There is, luckily i had downloaded the content of each directory within the 1553 maintenance build directory a few days earlier. I put it on my web site and posted the links here: https://springrts.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?p=596091#p596091 Yes; I was imprecise and inaccurate. What I meant was that t...

Re: Autohosts operating non-downloadable engines
This issue proves that the official infra is not to be trusted if you are serious about your game. In that regard, ZeroK, BAR and BA (have I missed any?) moving to their own respective places was a good choice, and a choice that is undoubtedly going to be made by other games shortly enough.

Re: Splitting Ares's lies from: The end of the maintenance branch
> It would allow BA to come back to spring server Ah yes, the only way for BA to come back is to do so on 103.0. Also saturnV in 2030: "Why did the engine devs sabotage 103 to not work with 2030 hardware?" Also saturnV in 2040: "Why did the engine devs sabotage 103 to not work with 20...

Re: Splitting Ares's lies from: The end of the maintenance branch
I do not know. Why? The reason given was "has been known to troll in the past." That could be applied to many others, maybe even triton himself. Floris even admits that but does not act on it? My point was that making an allcaps-thread screaming to ban someone without any explaination sho...

Re: The end of the maintenance branch
several of MF players use toasters with performance issues More than a year ago, Spring was at the greatest challenge yet. Kloot(?) made an ultimatum for players to use newer engine or he'd stop developing it. At the same time, both the latest release and the in-development engine were incompatible...
