Soo.. i found my buildings being partially burried in the mountainsides.. due to groundleveling not working, so i added a grid of offsets to my algo, to have the building snuggle to the mountain. Resulting error was wild:

Its a visual programming language, much easier to get into for units.
There is even a S44 Implementation.

In theory, a mitigation layer could be created - in lua. Allowing old games to pretend they are running on a old version of spring.
