Re: DWARF FORTRESS
What actually happens is when you make eye contact with carp, the sheer fear they instill into you causes you to jolt, even if there is a river ledge right next to you.

Re: Good Old Games
It looks legit.
It's a good idea. It's like a cross between Steam and Direct2Drive, but done right.
Start spamming them to get OTA on there.

Re: [Mod] - Final Outcome
This doesn't sound like 'yet another' TA mod. This sounds at least a little more interesting. It sounds alright, but... does the world really need yet another TA mod?
Great work. Can't wait to try it.

The obvious: Why?
Could you highlight some of the balancing ideas behind this, or did you just want a mod by your hand floating out there?

Re: Why Do Traditional Rts In The New Millennia Suck?
Starcraft is alright. Quickest spammer wins. If not, patient turtle wins. You can usually call the outcome of the game at two points, and walk off knowing who's going to win. Rome:TW and Medieval 2:TW Yes! One major reason why I love the TW series is the limitations under which you fight. No/limited...

Re: Why Do Traditional Rts In The New Millennia Suck?
dosn't explain why the 3d sequels of those games are crap. Nearly every RTS out there is very similar to, or a complete sequel of another nowadays. They try to 're-formulate' them, because they can't release the same exact game (well they could, but then it would get criticized for that instead) ev...

Re: Spring Engine vs. ___
I don't like TA3D's approach towards visual appeal vs. performance balancing. IMO, they're willing to sacrifice too much and take too many shortcuts in order to get everything running smoothly on your old PIII GeForce 3. That was the beauty of TA. You could run it on nearly any computer. All it nee...

Oh wait. I've been sitting about expecting this to finally happen for years.

Re: Why Do Traditional Rts In The New Millennia Suck?
Homeworld. There's a real RTS. I'm going with Pxtl. More RTS-s made. There were more crappy RTS-s in the 'Golden Days' than today, and there were more decent RTS-s than today simply because there were up to 10 produced a year back when. Company of Heroes I was really looking forward to. Then I found...

I was watching the news. And then the WTC came on. I was thinking "Holy sh*t". Not much. Oh, wait, what about the first (mainly failed) bombing of that same Trade Center building? Didn't one of the leaders of the first WTC bombing get sent to jail, and claimed that if he went to jail, they...

Re: Mod Question Repository... Questions come in, answers go out
I've been playing Warzone 2100 Beta4 a bit lately. They have a semi-working code for multiple weapons per unit. They plan to add ships eventually. A base ship body with player determined weapons. I've seen some TA units before with changeable weapons. I was curious how difficult it would be to have ...

And I don't care if the Sims sold super-well. This is not the Sims: http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/pc/spore It's not, but it really is something else. I've heard some interesting things about new techniques used to make the game. Even if it doesn't sell well, or even break even, it's a g...

Re: Spore's real costs, implications therof. A rant.
OTA was developed for a tiny fraction of that, with the main engine being completed in just a few months.
It was still revolutionary.
Spore should be revolutionary... but 50 million is overkill.

Re: DWARF FORTRESS
That's what crossfire from multiple towers is for. There is a drawback though - the higher your tower, the safer you are from retaliatory fire and the bigger your height advantage, but the bigger the blindspot.
