Re: Why Do Traditional Rts In The New Millennia Suck?
It could also be that the possible ways to make a good and fresh new RTS are simply drying up. It's always like this, the first few guys are breaking new exciting ground and no matter what their followers will be walking in their footsteps and shadows.

IMO round up and shoot every f**** wearing a black suit and hand over the few jobs they did that are actually necessary to skynet.

Re: LUA MD5 (skeletal animation etc)
It depends on whether you want the joint positions to be synced or not. For example if you want to keep track of where to spawn weapons. For now I decided to make it as a widget and keep it all unsynced, which has several advantages. Organic critters usually don't have any spinning turrets and stuff...

Expansions are probably just gonna add more width and not depth, most likely another stage.

Re: LUA MD5 (skeletal animation etc)
Ok, that works fine. Now I just need to deal with the synced-> unsynced barrier and hope it doesn't rot performance while trying to transfer the animation data to the drawer. On performance, I'm thinking it might be a good idea to precompute all the animations and store them, perhaps even as display...

Re: LUA MD5 (skeletal animation etc)
Im working on setting it up for animating actual units. A rather nasty problem seems to be that file input doesn't seem to work in gadgets. Widget would only go so far in using COB, handling synced stuff related to animated joints, etc. [ 242] Lua LoadCode pcall error = 2, LuaRules/main.lua, error =...

Re: Spore thoughts.
Will wright even admits it outright in some interview: As wonderful as the content creation and sharing options are, the one consistent complaint I├óÔé¼Ôäóve seen is that the gameplay seems to have been ├óÔé¼┼ôdumbed down├óÔé¼┬Ø for the sake of appealing to a more casual audience. Was it? ├óÔé¼┼ôI├ó...

Re: Spore thoughts.
It's quite possible that was just a video mockup or at least heavily tailored gameplay just to make the video. The diablo3 video for example has tons of stuff they made specifically just for that thing according to some blizzard employee's forum post I read ages ago. But it still shows their initial...

Re: Spore thoughts.
Are you sure? It's pretty obvious from watching early videos what happened. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T8dvMDFOFnA It's simply common practice and makes perfect business sense to dumb down games so of course they do so. It just sucks from the artistic point of view. Also things like removing blo...

Re: Spore thoughts.
It's just that its sad when games are massively dumbed down by money grubbing suits in hope of attracting more "casual gamers" and idiots.

When you have a model with a ton of little stuff like that you might wanna draw part of the texture as a generic stuff like metal, dirt, greebles and just put the little polygons there afterwards, kind of like you were working with 3do.

Re: Google Chrome
After a few days of use, It seems like I have actually made this my main browser. IE feels slow and chubby, and I havn't got myself to dling the furry yet. If I need to watch something video like yotube I use IE tough, can't be a$$ed to figure out how to do that in chrome, and I havn't set chrome as...

Re: Piracy article
DRM is just a corporate bullshit excuse to put spyware and crap on people computers, why else would they "just happen" to put it on free demos and stuff, plus it doesn't do jack shit against piracy except make the pirated copy work better... I bet they figure that dumb people will buy more...

Re: P.U.R.E. 0.55
I think it would look way better if the engines were grayish metal and perhaps had some more engine style greebling on it to break up the model... it feels like too much flat green.

This sums up my thoughts:
If only rattle would get to work we could have spore in spring soon (or at least dune2).

Or at least parts of it like matrix and quaternion operations, keeping the flexibility of having it as a script. Those would also be useful in other scripts as well.

Re: Unready button
About pausing, This would be really bad I think. Someone who needs to pause should have to explain why clearly enough that the other players agree to it in my opinion. Someone just pausing withouth saying anything and then having to wait for an indefinite time would be so annoying even if its legiti...

It would be nice if the background was simply the same as before when viewing the forums. I'm not sure If I dare but also would suggest bringing back the old logo/banner too as one of possible to pop up just for old times sake.

Re: LUA MD5 (skeletal animation etc)
I managed to get animations working: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JwL67-loGWU http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s281/Zpock/impscream.jpg The only thing left now is interpolation, for inbetween animation frames, and also multiple animation sequences I guess. This isn't really necessary to get to a...
