Re: Neverwinter
The D&D movie was a flop, but it was also a labour of love for the principal participant, and - as you can tell from the movie itself - it had shockingly little to do with D&D. I think he made a better, cheaper film afterwards, but I didn't watch it. Eh, I have no interest in MMOs. Last one ...

I would load out with that purple, but it needs something... maybe a pink or silver accent?

I find the effort put into these comics, although contained, a little odd.

Re: No game speed control? (Single Player)
Although the reasons are sound, the failure to communicate effectively was not, but it is a currently inavoidable consequence of the update format and release process.

Re: Another CRPG kickstarter - Divinity: Original Sin
I don't think I can justify it but it looks promising. I have Shadowrun, Torment, Eternity and Wasteland 2 to look forward to.

Re: Spring developer crisis
You could always help, Pepe. Constructive criticism is useful, but that is more destructive than constructive. People wonder why anyone who ever actively advertised, myself included (I even paid for banner placement online, and pamphlet printing offline), stopped? Probably the combination of no supp...

Re: Planetory Annihilation (Incoming Moon Drops!)
Well, there are a few options. The two that come immediately to mind are either rendering the world again as a sphere with zoom, or performing some sort of real-time projection relative to the position of the camera with or without a fixed distance from the surface.

Re: Spring developer crisis
Anyone can become an engine developer, but I think it would be fair to say AI developers have a lower barrier to ascension. Furthermore, the more healthy the other segments are, the more demand and thus appeal there is for engine development, correct?

Re: Spring developer crisis
What you prepare and deliver is dependent upon your goal and your target. If your target is purely university hobbyists and specialists, certainly a focused document - much like an academic paper - can be effective. However, this is a small segment to target, made up of people as deviant and uncommo...

Re: Spring developer crisis
Healthy eye roll there, gajop. Most efforts are good efforts, but in this case, coordination would probably not offer any real benefit. Social media marketing can either come from personal connection or from an authoritative central entity, but I've found mixing the two to be counterproductive in my...

Re: Torment: Tides of Numenera
I am uncertain whether I did the right thing, between Shadowrun Returns, Wasteland 2, and Torment: Tides Of Numenera. I never really got to play the earlier games, and I don't have the time to enjoy these returns to form which I've backed. They do seem atmospheric and fun though.

Re: Planetory Annihilation (Incoming Moon Drops!)
I'm not certain why one would be any more skeptical of crowdfunding than, say, angel investment, venture capital investment, or credit bootstrapping. I haven't been bowled over by Planetary Annihilation, but it seems solid enough. I am far less worried about what I'll get for my money than I am with...

Re: AI Design Idea
We'd have to ask him to clarify. I assume it could be done two different ways, either based on scouting or based on some sort of listener which has extended access to the sim. I think a system like that could be viable, if it only accounted for a portion (limited segment, perhaps) of resource usage ...

Re: AI Design Idea
I do not believe he was suggesting the AI cheat in the traditional sense, but rather that the player's resource usage be mapped and modeled for the AI to emulate. You would have to do it over a period of time anyway, using abstract categorizations of expenditures to aggregrate the data usefully acro...

Re: Game Dev Obstacles (split from Spring developer crisis)
Well, there are legitimate points within that, they're just heavily skewed, or ignore the greater context. There are exceedingly few player or developer communities where pressure for change, particularly uninformed, is embraced. Tolerance is in short supply online, but anyone who speaks coherently ...

Re: Large map issues
sad part is people like arturi, behe and myself have raised the visuals bar pretty damn high, I think forb has made ERRY layout possible by now and there just isn't a way to show up and make a best evar without massive gl knowledge or HUGE amounts of work. Yeah, the visuals arms race really undercu...

Every RTS ever. It is part of why I seldom play RTS anymore, after all the time with Spring, I get lost in the mechanics instead of the gameplay.gajop wrote:Maybe it's too much Spring influence, but I kept noticing all the pathfinding issues they have xD

Forboding and I both played Nuclear Dawn (Sometimes with Sleksa), for those who are curious. It was a good game that did not achieve critical mass in terms of players, I haven't played it for some time.

Re: Spring developer crisis
Perhaps I am wrong, but for years Spring has seemed base feature complete. A lot of the work that can be done is in the realm of radical expansion, optimization, and incremental feature improvement - this is not to say it isn't important or interesting, but that it is not low hanging fruit.

Re: Game engine language
The more Unity games I play, the less I feel Unity is suited for anything in particular, although you can do much with it. You can make turn based strategy in any engine - thats the least demanding genre of them all... Well, perhaps not the least demanding genre - logic, non-real-time puzzles - but ...
