Re: Lobby UI examples/screenshots

Still a bit unclear how you join hubs (is it automatic community partitioning?) I found this site regarding hubs: http://www.unrealtournament.com/blog/hub-new-menus-community-qa-and-project-update/ but not much else. Have yet to watch the video though! You might have to skip through it a little, so...

Re: Lobby UI examples/screenshots

I'm pretty impressed with the new UT's menu system, at least for being in pre-alpha state. I think it's already leagues better than the last few iterations. http://www.unrealtournament.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/hub.png Their hub idea is neat. It's basically a way to create smaller communit...

Re: discussion of chili menu for games

Personally, I'm no longer going to discuss my project on the forum (for now). If anyone has questions about it, I'll be more than happy to discuss via PMs.

Re: Minimap creation

As I wrote in the first post, it's not just about water. Adding just this is easy. But all the ssmf effects, lightning etc. change the look (sometimes quite a lot). And with the script posted above, getting all this and water is not more work than what you suggest. For comparison here side by side ...

Re: Configurable default startscript

Awesome! Wish I would have known that earlier.. but o well, I do now :-) So how does it work? It says "Archive name for the default Menu." ; doesn't it also need a script and/or map? Does it also use the standard lua callins? thats same idea as in https://springrts.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?...

Re: discussion of chili menu for games

Perhaps I should just split my code up into it's seperate parts already. It's hard to explain things to you when what we want from spring is subjectively different. You seem to want things to be mostly as they are, set up like a 'hub' for a spring player to play different spring games. I want games ...

Re: discussion of chili menu for games

To my understanding A+B both together ARE the spring-menu. (A is options, Quit, B is where player picks a game.) Yesyes, "hypothetical" menu but if that (B) is an example of a game's menu then is either really bad example or it raises more questions than it answers. (B) is clearly a Selec...

Re: Configurable default startscript

To reiterate, Just because that works doesn't mean that this wouldn't be the better solution. Right now running spring brings up an (arguably) dated menu. This feature would be the easiest way to prevent that menu from being what the unknowing user see's when they click the binary that came with the...

Re: discussion of chili menu for games

Also, I think some confusion comes from the fact that my posts cover a broad range of stuff that could be useful for both game menus and a new engine menu . It makes sense that a default engine menu could be used as a template for games to build a more personal menu for their game. I don't think the...

Re: discussion of chili menu for games

I can not reply to all your questions, there is simply too many. You are getting way ahead of yourself or at least me. But I will at least try to explain a few things. 2) Starting spring.exe with a "menu_startscript.txt" as parameter. already possible without change to engine It could be d...

Re: Minimap creation

If you go about it that way, it would be much easier to set the max and min height to be the same in lua rather than go through the trouble of recompiling.

Just a suggestion

edit:
or just make the difference small to eliminate most distortion and still retain the water plain.

Re: Configurable default startscript

True then maybe something more along the lines of If "defaultscript.txt" exists in the root folder and no arguments are given, spring will use it. It could also have similar behavior to springsettings, in that portables get priority but it will also include shared folders. That's probably ...

Configurable default startscript

It would be nice if you could add something like this to the springsettings.txt, defaultstartscipt=script.txt and it would then launch script.txt when no arguments were given to spring.exe. Otherwise it would behave as it has before. It would Make spring transparent (users only deal with UI provided...

Re: SKOLM - Some kind of lua menu

Your 'solution' for non-compatible games is that players download some new installers where the dev did "rename spring.exe into nameofgame.exe" - just so that the correct menu would show! Imo the biggest goal of all this was that such things would be no longer nessecary. "rename spri...

Re: discussion of chili menu for games

I merely like the idea of a user being able to customize and switch between different menus. Whatever the default is, I want to be able to switch to my own. It would be cool if the default menu provided the means to change to a different default menu. ( or if the user could just drop a "menu&qu...

Re: SKOLM - Some kind of lua menu

Thank you bluestone  Yet still I can't help but reply :? If you click my video you will see that the map is a part of the menu. Similiar was done in other menus of other mods too, even if there the map was just used as "splash screen." I do not see how this is possible here except...
