Brawlers and Rapiers have around 5 HPs per metal spent. That is almost the same as lvl-1 tanks... I think that might be too much. (but this is just a guess) This probably has to do with the fact that they can get shot down very easily when attacking buildings or units. To not make em completely use...

Sorry but you really gotta take a look in this forum. There are numerous topics about making maps. All the info is in there. If you can't be more specific: what sizes your textures are, what heightmap and metal map and commands your using for the mapconv utility, I don't think anyone can be of help.

Yeah nothing can go over lava except planes. Units would just not go there. Instead of walk there like acid and slowly die. Well given the fact that a player actually playing this game will be zoomed out a lot most of the time, I'd say I'd like to hear more sounds as well. At the moment I usually don't hear anything. In TA it didn't matter where you were on the map, your commander would still make a sound for you to hear...
