Re: Would bipedal mechs actually be useful?

I am thinking wild feline style running/jumping is optimal, the number of joints required is insane but it would actually get to dodge things so it's a trade-off between ruggedness and agility. Shield technologies would require power generation/batteries and that means a really large unit with today...

Re: Sometimes co-operation is difficult

Jools, let me tell you what my conclusion is: Nobody really wants this to work, stop trying. Compared to most other game engines out there, spring is not used, spring games don't have a lot of players, there are not a lot of people involved, etc. It's gonna be a long time (if ever) before the spring...

Re: Would bipedal mechs actually be useful?

2013 SIGGRAPH "Flexible Muscle-Based Locomotion for Bipedal Creatures" http://vimeo.com/79098420 I don't see that making it's way into a game without massive changes to 'fake' the physics and have pre-learned motions. It would however be massive amounts of fun to have drunken units stumble...

Would bipedal mechs actually be useful?

We keep seeing them in movies/games, they look cool but how would they compete with existing real life units? Where would a bipedal robot be better than a tank or similar vehicle? Current walking robots are mostly clumsy and having the actual tech to build that would better be used for a more agile ...

Re: Etiquette for non-programmers who want to make a game?

Not sure if it's anger nor emotion, it's a kind of reality check that I know I could've very well used a few times in my life. With zero sarcasm, you should check game development, business, managing teams, graphics books on amazon, you can judge them by reviews. You will find there are about a mill...

Re: Etiquette for non-programmers who want to make a game?

15 was the age when I didn't care, understand, want to know about IP. That will change. You will probably look at all of the game engines, find something very well documented, with tutorials and everything. I remember going through the old nehe gamedev opengl tutorials a lot of years ago, they provi...

Re: lobby server<->client protocol encryption

Tinfoil hat mode enabled. Because this is a tiny RTS engine project in the middle of nowhere, not a government bank or agency tasked with protecting state secrets that can deal with the hassle brought by certificates. You mean it's not a realistic warzone simulation that can be used to predict battl...

Re: lobby server<->client protocol encryption

Maybe the whole thing could be rewritten as an xmpp extension, thus benefiting from already very stable implementations, plugins such as openid integration http://wiki.xmpp.org/web/JabberID_and_OpenID_combination_:_XEP-0154_User-Profile_export and lots of nifty stuff. I know this is borderline troll...

Re: Multiwidget in LUA for units management

Let me get this straight ... This allows such things as to auto support units close to the center of the map with a formation of air units that is as wide as a percentage of the size of the map while ignoring certain types of units, and moving in a spiral.... while automatically separating units tha...
