Re: Mac have officially deprecated opengl

Deprecation doesn't mean removal, and I doubt they will remove it for quite a while. I understand them wanting to focus on Metal for future things though. In the meantime, the only roadblock to MacOS support at the moment is GL 4.1, which affects much more than the Mac As an aside, we could always m...

Re: If Microsoft buys github

I'm not sure what it is that Microsoft will get from this that endangers our project, we're already open source. We can just git mirror should Microsoft decide to be truly stupid.

Eitherway it would be far better than when we were on sourceforge

Re: Minimaps on the test spring.exe screen

I was not aware that LuaMenu worked with the raw engine minus a startup script. I've yet to see any docs or examples of it

Minimaps on the test spring.exe screen

The map menu is mystery meat at the moment, it'd be nice to add a minimap

Though I imagine if you can get your UI working in develop the new code would work in 103 too, futureproofing!

I'm sure Sinbad was the first to do this, pre-2010, going as far as making the entire map out of features

Re: Shard 0.4/dev

Placement algorithm had some updates, now has a debug widget too, and checks for spacing using a basic heuristic. Now that it's working and can be seen visually, the timing mechanism needs implementing, but, it's not so bad as it is currently and since it's asynchronous the hardcoded iterations act ...

Re: Can we please have an engine that reads modoptions.lua?

Without that it would be too hard to detect when it's launched outside a lobby.
Since we have the code to the game engine, perhaps we should modify it so that this is explicitly possible to check for, rather than using a hack

Remote SSH MBP

I've an old work machine that's not being used and has been wiped to factory settings, sitting unused. If it will help, I can set it up for remote SSH if an engine dev wants to test things on a Mac? it's a 2016 MBP 13" with maxed out specs, sadly no internal GPU but it should be able to run spr...

Re: GL 4 Progress and Help

hmm that's handy. Even if we can't get MacOS builds working, we can at the very least sort out the OpenGL ones and get Wine working. Hopefully I can crosscompile a windows binary from a docker container/VM/VPS

Re: GL 4 Progress and Help

One of the problems there is that every lua widget would need rewriting. A good chunk of stuff would need updating with A GL4 engine but not nearly as much. I did see that the GLBindings project makes it easier to wrangle these things, but adding a dependency and switching everything over to the GLB...

Re: GL 4 Progress and Help

I've done some searching and it seems the closest I can find to an actual table of GL extensions/functions and their versions is the grid over at https://mesamatrix.net/ With that in mind, how useful would a spreadsheet with these down the side, and GL Version across the top be? It might take some w...

Re: GL 4 Progress and Help

Plenty of OpenGL stuff still runs on MacOS, I thought the goal was to move spring towards OpenGL 4.1 core? The situation may not be optimal but OpenGL as an API isn't going away anytime soon on MacOS. So with regards to GL 4.1 progress, what's the current status? Are there blockers, what's next on t...

GL 4 Progress and Help

The current MacOS status makes me sad and I feel a bit lost in figuring out how I can help My current theory is that if I check out the develop branch and try to build then I can run it and see how far it gets before a pre OpenGL4 system gets in the way ( likely immediately ). Is this correct? Or do...

Not many, but the first post announcing the death of Spring was on 27 Mar 2005, 23:47. It's preserved for posterity at https://springrts.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?p=6823#p6823 There were several before the great forum wipe of 2004 when Fnordia wiped the site by accident. There were even vaporware acc...

Re: List of staff

Ah of course you weren't just looking for information. Well I'd be in favour of elections and even relinquishing my position if there was a plan for it -> we actually need more mods (not less), especially to moderate the lobby. I'm not interested in devising a complicated election mechanism, but I ...
