tangent space normal mapping
back in the day, way back, i actually wrote a tutorial on how to hack blender to make tangent space normal maps. (this was 2003 or so). (aka dot3 mapping) i did a search to see if spring has it, not seeing much. It does have normal mapping. (i know it does), but the nice thing about TSNM was you jus...

Re: what are the hard limitations of this engine?
2... the four unit types, seems to be fairly deeply embedded in the engine, as there are map area definitions which determine how the different types move over the terrain. my guess would be, for example if you had a mudpit, kbots could be defined to move at half speed, and tanks at 1/4 speed. i wou...

Re: Don't use upspring!
I suggest you simply use Collada (.dae), and save yourself the trouble of using upspring. did they fix the issue with blender's export and z is up? if so, great otherwise it is a whole level of rage inducing frustration! i didnt get this one. OGRE 3d had the same "problem". it was just a ...

Re: what are the hard limitations of this engine?
awesome. thanks, the answers helped a ton. for 7: the yardmap is documented as having multiple values, one being (g), which means buildable on geo vents only. my guess is other tags can be made, for other, as of yet undefined, terrain feature. I am very surprised there can be more than metal and ene...

what are the hard limitations of this engine?
so i spent all night last night reading the wiki and looking at almost all of the parts in balanced annihilation. (because i have it, and my home internet is very, very poor right now). basically, my question is, what other hard coded limitations are there, and please correct or verify some of my as...

The feasability of Spring as a battle engine in a wider game
What is the feasibility of use spring to play out battles determined by a 2d turn based map? In other words, the 2d map would send what units are fighting, those units would be spawned in a spring battle, the battle plays out, and then the results sent back to a 2d game. (no factories or energy or m...

Re: Hall of fame website
So I don't know if it is counting correctly, because sometimes it is reporting wins as losses, and visa versa, but other times it is reporting correctly. I think the over all W/L count is correct, it is just the result column is reporting incorrectly. I just checked, and it appears the result column...

Hall of fame website
Hall of fame website (http://replays.springrts.com/hall_of_fame) reports wins as losses, and losses as wins.
Also, when trying to replay a game, I always get the same error:
"Parse error in buffer at line 1 column 11 near <[]"

Re: LOS, and energy AI
constructors cant know when energy is cgoing to be used by units, so maybe an energy reserve slider, where you can set how much energy you want used only for weapons.
And cloaking, shields and radar should get 1st priority always, then weapons.

LOS, and energy AI
LOS: can line of sight just be improved to the range of most units? Tactical scouting encourages scout spam. There is no reason for it... ...and why do these bots all have such terrible optics that they are limited to about 100 M at best? Energy AI: It would be nice if energy priority was given to e...

Re: SNiper is too god
people complaining about snipers gain this perspective by playing games containing far too much of one or more of the following: DSD More than 8 Players in game noobs Play 4v4 comet catcher and behold, snipers are not op. I love a good comet catcher. But comet catcher is a metal rich map, (almost a...

Re: Whats happening with BA?
When I first started, there were games going on at all hours. Not anymore. I played a lot, but smurfs and trolls. What assholes. The development team has gone backwards. The game has gotten laggier and laggier. And then the most recent version changed so many things, I just found it frustrating. All...

Two ideas, to battle smurfs and trolls: 1: A rep system through the lobby After someone has played a game, they get the ability to give a reputation point to one person, with the rep givers hours played rank counting as points, (ie a private could give one point, a ghost could give 8) A part B: to t...

Slow down snipers
Snipers have become the core of every arm army. They encourage spam, which I think is always a disservice. They are used until the end of the game, and are more powerful than most t3 units, because t3 units are generally too slow to reach them before being killed by snipers. Samsons were slowed down...

Re: Unacceptable unbalance tactical nukes
This is all based on people who super clump their bases. You can spread out your base to make it more resistant to bombings and tac nukes. Super-clumping has advantages and disadvantages. It gives you an economic edge, but also exposes you to catastrophic failure. And I have yet to see a game where ...
