Re: Compile Spring on Windows vs Linux
core focus is / should be: 1. release 2. fix bugs 3. features compile on windows support clearly is a feature as its not needed for 1 + 2. Are you ordering based on what's currently priority here, or in general? If you are in the middle progress of wrapping things up for the next release, then we c...

Re: Compile Spring on Windows vs Linux
(Sorry for the late reply) @SuperMario Are you willing to help with this? (Find volunteers/figure out a concrete way to recruit new volunteers/devs/contributors) How can we support you to achieve this? Yes, I am. I can help other people regarding recurring and developing on windows. I can even help ...

Re: Compile Spring on Windows vs Linux
Which is the result of development of windows being an afterthought rather than a core focus. creating a release is already a problem. you suggest to focus on windows development? WTF? please stop talking. I was merely making a observation statement based on what I have seen on github and my past e...

Re: Compile Spring on Windows vs Linux
This warning was added because several people failed to compile spring. Which is the result of development of windows being an afterthought rather than a core focus. The situation which me and other people are trying to improve. I certainly can't improve it all by myself, as the last time I did it,...

Re: Compile Spring on Windows vs Linux
Any number greater than 0 means that it is worth doing as we can't afford to be turning away potential engine devs afaics. Is it better to disrupt the current devs from their work? This warning was added because several people failed to compile spring. Even with a lot of help they just gave up, i'm...

Re: Compile Spring on Windows vs Linux
what do you suggest then to improve the situation? Here is some ideas: Find a volunteers to is willing to set up a 24/7 windows build slave for vc and mingw64.(I can't do this for reasons that I have already given) Remove the stupid warning sign, and submit the issues that you have with it on manti...

Re: Compile Spring on Windows vs Linux
You are conflicting some minor inconvenience with severity here. "- majority of build slaves use linux and test multiple compiler versions (!)" ...Did you forget the work that we did to set up a VC one!? I didn't set up one officially, as I lack the infrastructure to set up a build server ...

Re: Compiling engine in Windows
i guess you mean developers? Mostly linux. The buildslaves currently run on linux, too. IMO debian or ubuntu should work best to compile spring. I'm currently using Debian 8.7 jessie for compiling spring, the automatic tests use ubuntu trusty: https://github.com/spring/spring/blob/develop/.travis.y...

Re: Compile Spring on Windows vs Linux
"3 seconds copy and paste to install vs. 10 minutes of surfing / searching / downloading / installing and maybe repeat from the beginning because the wrong compiler was installed." I call bull on that statement. There is no way it could take that long unless 1.)You have no idea what your d...

Re: Compile Spring on Windows vs Linux
Will you stop splitting threads amba!? (I hate the quote system btw) "then you confirmed it." But it isn't that bad to warrant a warning!! "Did you test on a SSD or HDD? I would except the difference on a HDD to be much greater as NTFS performs very bad with many small files." HD...

Compile Spring on Windows vs Linux
i guess so, yes. Forgotten this already abma? Besides the reasons regarding the warnings are garbage. "Compiling is often slower on windows " I tested this a year back and the differences is minimal (around 1-2 minutes IRC). "Compiling on windows is poorly tested (which possibly lead...

Re: Status on BAR + repo links
While a core dev is indeed missing, I still think the choice of VCS/VCS platform matters. Github makes contributing easy. I don't know how anyone is supposed to contribute to BAR atm, outside of sending patch diffs via email? So to be practical, if Silentwings, Beherith, etc. don't mind I'd like to...

Re: Why does spring 103 dedicated use so much cpu?
*Ahem* You need to profile it, to see where the cpu is spending the most time on. You can't fix something if you don't know what exactly the problem is. He doesn't need to fix it - just find out the routine that is consuming most of the CPU time. With that a decent mantis entry can be made. https:/...

Re: Status on BAR + repo links
No, I honestly haven't play BAR, but I did have high hopes for this project when this is announced, because the legal issues regrading BA and the deviations of it is technically illegal, nor is it ideal. I just checked the recent status on their website, and the issues I have seen are not exactly wh...

Re: Status on BAR + repo links
Polish, and lots of it. Which levels of polish are you aiming for? I know that first impressions is very impotent, but if you let perfect be the enemy of good, then it will never be released. When a project is reaching HXH(Hunter X Hunter) hiatus status, I think it a good time to reevaluate your pr...
