spring on Linux - data files

Hello, I'm running taspring under linux and I'm having problems with xta mod. (downloaded from http://download.berlios.de/taspring-linux/taspring-linux-data-0.67b1.tar.bz2 The error is: Parse error 'brace or further name value pairs expected' in units/armfast.fbi at line 29 column 7 near soundcatego...

The quality is here for sure. I still wonder how many of the players are original TA fans. I would guess many of them are. I recently showed the game to a friend of mine (usual windows player), and he felt very lost - (starting with the lobby, continuing with the weapons and units and finishing with...

As far as I know, now the code bases are merged (Linux and Windows). There is of course still the problem of network synchronization and lobby (the linux one is not yet finished, but it's progressing)

Pretty interesting discussions. But as I can't play spring on my old rv100 I just ordered a GeForce 6600. As someone (sorry for not searching but it's kind of a big thread - thanks anyway for the tip) recommended I waited until now and I saw a price cut of about 20 $ compared to the begining of the ...

Don't have my gentoo at hand, but i think he could use "emerge -f" which only fetches packages, put them on cd and install at home.

Of course this will work for the dependencies, but if you want to modify spring you won't compile it from the ebuild.

For gentoo system you can download the ebuild from : http://download.berlios.de/taspring-lin ... r3.tar.bz2 and install it as it will automaticly install the dependencies (haven't tested lately though, but it should work).

Maybe you could take one step at the time and also write a wiki while you do this (for example I have already a working environment and I use linux for 3 years, so maybe I'm not the perfect man to write a simple tutorial)

So, have you managed to get the sources from svn ?

The linux command for bad blocks is "badblocks". Read the manual for more info, I used it only once long time ago. In windows it was something like "scandisk" if I remember correctly. About gentoo, for me it was great. I mean I like hacking the system and understanding (even the ...

This sounds like your hard drive has bad blocks. Could you check your harddrive for bad blocks ? I installed gentoo twice (first time I did an amd64 install and wasn't satisfied with the result) and worked like in the manual... But I must admit I used only linux at home for about 3 years before tryi...

Great they work. I tried with the resolution and didn't see a change. I will try GroundDecals also.

Thanks for the tip about white units, but anyway I think I will buy a new card as I can't do much with this one.

I could say you are partially lucky. For me the whole map and units are white (also old radeon, using open source drivers). About the config: there is indeed a .springrc created in my home directory when I start spring, but I doesn't seem as it is reading the data from it. The new lobby (trunk/omni)...

Here the 6200 is around 120$ and 6600 are above 150$. Unlucky me.

And what I observed is that all the cards on PCIe are cheaper than the AGP versions. I guess they want to convince people to switch.

This is the worst possible time in the history of the universe to buy a graphics card. Wait 6 months, you'll get twice the performance for a quarter the cost. Moreover, in 6 months, the Directx 10-compliant cards will start coming out - and if you don't have one, you have a paperweight. Are you rea...

I was talking about 'general' FX 5500 cards. :( . I saw spring on a FX 5200 at game start with more detail and it looked like it was running fine. But I did not checked exactly what options it had, or if it behaved good with many units. So you say I should buy something powerfull than FX 5500 (which...

Recomended graphic card

On what Nvidia graphic card would Spring to run with all the options enabled ? Does it use a specific Opengl version ? I will use it exclusively for Linux (so I'm not interested in DirectX)and I have an ATI and I don't want another :p. I think that an FX 5500 would do the job, but I would appreciate...

Master server sources

The sources from berlios svn in trunk/backup/server are the sources used to build the master server at cheetah.sentvid.org ? (if so, has anyone tested them on linux ?) I want to play with the new omni lobby and I would rather make a local master server than logging in and out the one at cheetah.sent...
