I'll help, in about a month's time once my exams are out of the way.
By all means, go ahead and use my example stuff.

Re: Open IG
They should have chosen a better name. There's already the Open Image Generator project, as well as people misspelling "opening".
Having said that, it does look interesting, if a bit overcomplicated.

Re: Static Friction 0.5
That too. Having said that, as well as rapid I'm still planning on distributing a vanilla sdz by download, because that's the way I prefer to download spring games. And so it's still going to be worth my time writing some "if MuSmusic.sdz exists then play MuSmusic.sdz/music/whatever.ogg" c...

Sounds good. How would I do that? Who would I need to talk to?Pxtl wrote:Get it into Rapid. Then you can release updates without forcing people to fetch the music again.

Re: Having trouble with making my own little mod.
I get the error message: [f=0000088] LuaRules::RunCallIn: error = 2, UnitCreated, [string "scripts/tankscript.lua"]:1: piece not found: base And looking at the new tank3.s3o in UpSpring again, there's no piece "base", but there's a piece "Tank.3ds"; if you rename that t...

Re: Having trouble with making my own little mod.
I think I've found the problem. Ignore everything I said before; I was misinterpreting what you were saying. The problem was, on the model in Upspring, you've labelled some of your pieces "Body", "Turret" and "Gun", but the script was looking for "body", "...

Re: Having trouble with making my own little mod.
I used the mod provided called "Empty Game plus Tank" and I just replaced the tank3.3d0 and the texture for it in the mod. Hang on. Do you mean you replaced the original tank3.s3o with a new model called tank3.3d0 ? The Spring engine supports 3do and s3o model formats, which are different...

Re: Static Friction 0.5
Thanks for the comments, guys! knorke: I'm PTSnoop in lobby, although I don't actually go onto multiplayer lobby all that much. I'll probably be around for a few games some time in the next few days. And yes, the sdz is a bit big (it's got 127Mb of music in there). I'll try to throw together a no-mu...

Static Friction 0.5.2
Static Friction 0.5.2 - Cube Heavy Scout. - Cube Cruiser Base, Fire Cruiser, Spike Cruiser. - GC Aphid. - Kuvalus Cruiser Base, Laser Cruiser. - Biomass Burrow now working, mostly. - Biomass now has buildpics. Still very tricky to work out how to use Biomass without someone telling you about the in...

Re: Complete Guide to Making a Spring Game
Thanks for the responses, guys! What I really need now is as much feedback as possible. People familiar with the engine, please point out all the factual errors (I've fixed the COB lua one, but I'm sure there are plenty more). People less familiar with the engine, please point out things that are un...

Complete Guide to Making a Spring Game
...is now on the Wiki. After looking at this thread , I had a look around the existing tutorials, and realised that most of them were spread across the wiki, the forums, and a few external sites, and that pretty much all of them were using tdf and BOS/COB rather than the newer lua. So I wrote my own...

Re: Trouble starting a game for the first time
Games tend not to include maps in the sdz file; you'll need to download some yourself, and put them in the /maps folder. http://www.springfiles.com/files.php?subcategory_id=2 is a good place to look. Quick link to a map file: http://springfiles.com/download.php?maincategory=1&subcategory=2&f...

Re: Idea: Fog of War
The normal Spring LOS doesn't work with shadows, has an annoyingly slow refresh rate, and takes a large bite out of FPS.
I'm just wondering, would a LUA implementation work any better for any of these problems?

Re: Ubuntu Lucid PPA?
Hmm, that's odd. I'm looking at Synaptic now, and the packages spring, spring-common and spring-dbg are all version 0.80.5.2-2ubuntu1. But spring-engine is 0.81.2-0ubuntu1, which is the same version as the PPA for Karmic (which is why I assumed my laptop was getting that package from the PPA rather ...

Re: Ubuntu Lucid PPA?
Spring 0.80.5.2 is in the repos, yes. But that version's been out of date since January, and the repo version's not likely to get better any time soon. I've been using the 9.10 Karmic ppa files, which work ok but give me an error message every time I try to update anything. Since 10.04 Lucid is a lo...
