Re: Linux Settings Tool

Re: Why Consoles Rule the Earth (v. long)

Linux's anchorpoints are open standards, and distros. But I agree that for a commercial game developer it's not an attractive platform if they don't use open standards for their engines themselves. Then they could rely on porting companies (Loki(rip) LGP) or emulating companies (codeweavers) to do i...

Re: ATI Free Drivers for Spring

It runs pretty well here too on r300_dri.so git on an X700 PCIE. XAA rendermode is very unstable (random crashes) so I use EXA. And I screw up GARTsize a little. Section "Device" ... Driver "ati" Option "GARTSize" "32" Option "AccelMethod" "EXA&...

I just checked, and 74b1 seems to be the most recent game data for linux. The script is distro neutral (I dont use debian or clones), it's just what you would normally do by hand to build spring svn. If it doesn't build the binary, you can check why by executing the scons build step manually. Your d...

It has to be said ati is the fastest 3d card supported by open drivers. (PCIE X850) as an indirect result of their cooperation with free software developers in the r200 era. (but not since) Nvidia isn't a real longterm solution, in terms of openness, they even use another direct rendering standard, ...

If you don't care about licenses you could also run windows.
But politics and associated integration problems aside the proprietary drivers should perform better than the dri drivers when they work.

If you just tried updating the data package for your exisiting install, that wont work; differing versions and wrong install path. I linked you here for the url to the data files you requested. Contact an ubuntu spring user if you want to continue with the ubuntu/debian specific install. If you ran ...

The open r300_dri.so driver works, but it's beta software. On my 64bit memory X700 it crashes with spring for unknown reasons without a pattern. (could be hardware failure) And it's barely fast enough to be playable. Nanoblobs doesnt run at all, because of an incompatible graphics something somethin...

yes, backup your existing ~/.springrc and ~/.unity-lobby, for the rest it's isolated into it's own directory.

If you want to return to stable, or other previous install, remove $TLD, and restore ~/.springrc and ~/.unity-lobby.
