Re: Total Annihilation 2 is alive

Come on. guys, let's be honest - Spring has a chance only if it changes from engine to platform for PLAYABLE and FUN mods (like Spring Tanks), not a small number of pure RTS ones I would like to hear your reasoning. Mini-mods are a fun novelty, but they don't have staying power. Look at all of KDR_...

Re: What happen to the Pure dev?[serious]

"kloot ripped it apart" imo must be seen context of time. An engine-dev in 2013 says that a modder in 2009 made something hackish. That is a bit like a NASA tech saying that the Wright brothers 100 years ago had no idea what they were doing. Of course many of their assumptions were wrong, just like...

I was really embarrassed that I made it so wide, then I checked with firefox, chrome, chromium, opera, rekonq, and qupzilla. What the hell are you using. o_0

Re: Movement

Apply a 'desired direction' force/vector, combine that with inertia/mass math, apply gravity according to slope, generate final motion, it can smooth things out. As long as you don't mind your units being hilariously unresponsive to changes in move order. I think the effect would be somewhat simila...

This.

Also we could probably remove "Join date" information. And titles.

Re: Sometimes co-operation is difficult

1. Why is this thread title so vague

2. Why not just "download zip" from the github page?

Re: Total Annihilation 2 is alive

LOTV should actually lower the beginner curve by a LOT, which may end up invalidating your last sentence. With LOTV, blizzard has essentially lopped off the first 4 minutes of gameplay. That much is HUGE, and that was one of the most crucial and newb destroying times of the game (choices matter a L...

it is a game utilizing their tech and existing IP. You are not even trying.
Right, "tech" being their game engine that is also used for starcraft.

Perhaps we should just refer to it generically as "Blizzard Engine".

Re: Total Annihilation 2 is alive

I'm repeating myself but spring is a simulator and starcraft is a game. SC, WC etc have no real mods, just custom maps. SPRING = ENGINE STARCRAFT = GAME STAPH COMPARING THEM Guys what is Heroes of the Storm? A custom map? A mod? -_- That was their initial idea, which i think is a good one except pe...

Re: Total Annihilation 2 is alive

Skiing banelings lol.

The videos are pretty awesome, but they are mostly all tech demos. I would be interesting to find out how much work is required, and how convenient the editor is to use. Also find out if there is a repository of scripts for less work redundancy.

Re: Total Annihilation 2 is alive

I mean, what exactly are we trying to compare? Are we comparing the modding capabilities of SC2 against Spring, or are we comparing a particular mod/game against BAR? Also, as far as creating a TA/BAR-esque game goes, does the SC2 engine offer finite unit acceleration, non-zero turn radii, projectil...

Re: Total Annihilation 2 is alive

Oh yeah: full disclosure: I know literally nothing about modding SC2 except what I've read in this thread. So far, it's been confirmed that you can: 1) Import 3D models 2) Script your own economy (with Lua/Jass?) That's like hearing about a car that comes equipped with four wheels and an engine. So ...

Re: Total Annihilation 2 is alive

smoth is right ... At the moment SC2 map editor provides so much modding (it is possible to convert entire eco/units of TA/Spring, I've done that before on SC1/War3) Whoa there hold on. You're telling us that the Starcraft 2 engine has the capability of IMPORTING 3D MODELS!?!? So much modding. Wow.

Re: Starcrap 2 WCS finals today

Actually the fact that there were no bonjwas in sc1 pre-BW when the game was still changing enormously, and that bonjwas only started to appear once the game stayed more constant (aside from meta changes), is pretty supporting for the argument that there have been no real bonjwas in sc2 (at least n...

Re: Starcrap 2 WCS finals today

Did I just read something by Blizzard PR? Lots of hype/feel-good and little actual content. There are various players who absolutely dominate, and many examples of months of domination by one single player. But the game just moves faster than tennis does. It is changing constantly. Other pro's are c...

Re: Starcrap 2 WCS finals today

SC2 developers have a serious case of LoL-envy. Everyone thought that SC2 was going to be the penultimate esport of the current age, and LoL more or less appeared out of nowhere to gobble up that title, and SC2 devs spend all their resources trying to play "catch-up" rather than being free to bring ...

Re: Planetary Annihilation (Incoming Moon Drops!)

Guys I'm not trying to make a direct comparison, just offer some crude perspective (like an order of magnitude calculation). I was also aware of the disclaimer and that is partially the reason I posted direct links.

The bottom line is that money is probably not as much money as you think it is.
