Re: Unlocks and experienced players

Lol have you ever heard correlation is not causation? Look we have explained why unlocks is bad. The best reply I got was ''BA has many units too!''. It directly contradicts the text someone was kind enough to copy from your homepage and paste here for you to see. You see, nothing in life will ever ...

Re: Unlocks and experienced players

I don't see how that is different from all the redundant units in BA where you have to keep track of all different econ structures, different types of tanks that are light, medium, heavy, what micro you need to use on different units to counter enemy units, arm vs core, etc, etc. Its a part of know...

Unfortunately the enemy com got modules I can't use so I have no idea of their strength, limits, area of effect, range, etc...

Which is precisely why unlocks suck.

What does this mean? Are they such good players they don't ever need the extra units?

Re: Unlocks and experienced players

I haven't played AA & BA for 6 years because unlocks kept me motivated. What kept me coming back was the gameplay experience. Maybe something ZK devs should take a lesson from? Exactly. When Gota says Makes the game much more interesting whne you have something to play towards. You should understan...

Re: Unlocks and experienced players

Heavier unlocks please... you should be forced to play for months before unlocking everything... I'm not being sarcastic. Makes the game much more interesting whne you have something to play towards. Ah yes the fine art of noob crushing. The hallmark of every successful game. And every successful c...

Re: Unlocks and experienced players

Also you might want to consider that Call of Duty is not an RTS. It is possible that you can come up with an RTS that has unlocks (besides yours) but then you won't have the ''successful game with unlocks'' argument.

Re: Unlocks and experienced players

Actually the trend in gaming is towards unlocks and Call of Duty (among others) certainly seems to be thriving with it. Given that new players in ZK start with >55% of units already unlocked (increasing to >90% in maybe two hours of playing), I'd say we're actually an abberation in that regard. Whi...

Re: Unlocks and experienced players

Not hating. Just not playing a promising mod and telling you why.

There is no way that I am going to play a game in which my opponent has more options than me. I mean one thing is ARM vs CORE and I could have chosen at game start like my opponent did. But to have to grind? I'm anti-grind.

Re: Unlocks and experienced players

OMG I have been watching some of these games and developing an interest and now I find out this has unlocks? Look kids, not everything that is popular when you are a child is a great idea. Namely, your World of Warspring is dead in the water. It is unbelievable how much work this game must have take...

Re: Spring MT linux64 crashes with memory usage spike

zerver, if you have a 64 bit capable CPU you can install a 64 bit OS under Virtualbox even if your host OS is 32bit. About the stack trace, if you can post instructions on what to do, I could try. I am familiar with the command line stuffs, I just need to do how to invoke the debugger and how to obt...

Spring MT linux64 crashes with memory usage spike

I have recently been trying the multithreaded linux64 build of spring on an Intel I7 with 8 gigs of ram. At what seem to be random times, in about 20% of the games, spring will freeze, the memory usage shoots up and the system becomes unusable. I can see the memory usage go up from about 1 gig to 8 ...

Re: spring multithreaded

I can't check this right now because i am setting up a new computer - with more cores, even! :-) I assume this to be correct. It is great that the mt version is included and so easy to use. Thank you very much for this information. I must say I looked and looked and couldn't find even a hint of this...

Re: Ubuntu 9.04 game loses focus.

I saw this problem before and solved it by disabling desktop effects and using the metacity (for Gnome) window manager instead when playing spring.

Install the package fusion-icon and run it and you'll get an icon on the tray where you can make the switch.

Re: The most nukes/adv fusions/krogoths/etc. ever in regular DSD

When someone has 20 adv fusions the game is often won or lost by then, usually won otherwise flashes would have been knocking down the adv fusion long ago. When the game is close to ending i like to send a single minelayer to lay down some medium mines right next to one of the adv fusions. Then i se...

Can't watch replays on intrepid (repos)

I get this every time:

spring: /build/buildd/spring-0.79.1/rts/Game/PlayerHandler.h:35: CPlayer* CPlayerHandler::Player(int): Assertion `unsigned(i) < players.size()' failed.
