Re: 32 Players

... why not give people the freedom to choose what they want?

It's not like, you'll be forced to join such huge games and endure the horrible, horrible pains. Stop trying to screw others over because *you* wouldn't like it.

I thought it was pretty clear that it needs it atm, but they're removing the need :?

Glad you got it figured out though!

Re: The performance of the Spring engine

@ Vadi For about 120 years, the accepted figures for mean simple reaction times for college-age individuals have been about 190 ms (0.19 sec) for light stimuli and about 160 ms for sound stimuli (Galton, 1899; Fieandt et al., 1956; Welford, 1980; Brebner and Welford, 1980). But you must also unders...

Not arguing, but what do you mean no refresh mod option? tools - reload maps/mods does the trick.

Re: New Ubuntu Apt Repository for Spring

Could the installer package create all of the .spring directories too, or is something else supposed to do that?

Re: Showcasing spring to new users (feedback)

http://popcon.ubuntu.com/by_inst, which is an optional (not enabled by default, you need to find the option an enable it in software sources) package popularity contest in Ubuntu shows that there are 642 installations of SpringLobby, and 126 actively use it. Compared to 555 of the spring engine and ...

Re: The performance of the Spring engine

I don't see how that accumulated difference will impact your ability to dodge shots in a single instance. Unless you're playing for 1+ hour straight without any sort of a break, but that's unhealthy

Re: The performance of the Spring engine

We're also forgetting the input, which all gamers are claiming is oh so important down to that 5ms. I wonder what's the response rate on typical hands :? Btw, that pilot research, imo, does not apply. I'm pretty sure you'll be able to tell a difference in a movie with, lets say, a wheel spinning ver...

Re: The performance of the Spring engine

That period of time has to be short to make any difference - for example I don't think you'll see one if you watch 40 and then 50 fps for an hour. So lets take the same old one second, which is quite big for these purposes. That's 10 frames of a difference, or 50ms, evenly spread out over the 1000 m...

Re: The performance of the Spring engine

OK, I know people claim that. I simply don't believe it though! Some simple math such as 50fps = 1 frame every 20ms, 40fps = 1 frame every 25ms, and 5 ms difference is an _awfully_ short time. It's 200th of a second , programs and wikipedia offers a nice comparison of what that means (http://en.wiki...

Re: Identity, and Identity Guidelines

Your classmates must be doing quite poorly in the class, because unless you're doing a complete rebranding, you don't alter the logo significantly - since the consumers have already gotten used to it.

Ya? Nobody is doing complete rebranding, so changing logo completely != smart.

Re: Change "Mod" to "Game"

I suggested this idea a while ago (http://spring.jobjol.nl/show_file.php?id=947). Essentially call it a game everywhere outside of Spring (Star Wars guys got it, among other good things), keep a mod inside as it's the familiar naming.

Re: The performance of the Spring engine

I don't believe anyone can see a difference between 40fps and 50fps.

Someone should do a blind test to compare just to see what others see 8)

Re: The performance of the Spring engine

There's also an amazing thing called 'video settings' that can be observed to increase performance.

That, and the rest comes down to renderer, drivers & the OS you're using.

Re: The performance of the Spring engine

a) You're comparing a game that's reported to have a budget of $27 million, against a game with a budget of $0. That's a 27million difference, right there! b) You don't play Spring with 29 tanks. OK? You just don't. You play Spring with 500 tanks all moving, fighting, getting build, and flying about...
