Re: Planetary, moon or asteroid map.

Ohh, so populous uses a "doughnut" map. I get it. Great, now I can live life without that little frustration. :-)

Lets implement it

How feasible is this? Will this allow SpliFF to do real low end stuff and still keep the modern graphics code maintainable?

Re: Blender Conference

Back from the conference and had a good conversation with Ton. I didn't manage to ask all the questions and remarks you guys posted here within the 10-15 minutes. But after an hour I more or less did. Now I have to write out his ramblings and translate it in English, I don't have time for that until...

I sense a banhammer coming down. It's a shame I never bothered to get myself a banhammer for the forum, I understand troll-bashing is great exercise.

Lets just get the new version released. What the version number is, with or without the checkbox, it's all bikesheding.

Re: Blender Conference

Small update, it's not going to be an video interview. I can have a chat 10-15 min. but his time is constrained on the conference.
My plan now is to speak with him and record audio, write that out in English and put that text online.

It's not that difficult, developers with high IQ understand complexity and appreciate the flexibility choices offer as it provides them with control.

Re: Blender Conference

There are some models converted from glest to spring floating around. Not sure how complicated that was... but doesn't it mean spring modelers could use the same tools as glest? It's not so much "tools", they wrote an exporter in Blender, it records the position of each vertex per animation frame. ...

Re: Blender Conference

Actually, that's a good idea, Blender has an option somewhere to embed an external engine inside its gui. Allowing you to edit inside Blender and see in real time the 'in game' result. Theoretically,.. anyway. It was developed in the Peach open project but I never seen it used anywhere. I should ask...

Re: Blender Conference

@Neddie, I would like it if the people without C++ coding skills involve themselves in the organisational discussion. It gives a broader perspective, helps the devs keeping a focus on code and allows others to be more involved in the project as a whole. It's a calm period now so perfect to push this...

Blender Conference

At the end of this month I plan to attend the Blender conference and expect/hope to have a conversation with Ton Roosendaal about the way things are organized with the Blender Foundation/Institute. The idea is that we as the Spring project can learn something from their choices. Are there any questi...

Re: Spring have less players

The advantage is that the noise/signal ratio is good at the moment. A big active playerbase is a distraction for development. But not having your code released is also very demotivating for developers.

Yes! We are in a "market" with a lot of 16 year old kids. They have loads of time to waste and don't suffer from responsibility's like 'generating income'.

Just a little side note about GPL v.3, it has certain provisions against the use of DRM. DRM techniques might actually be useful at some point to prevent cheating. I never really studied GPL v.3 so this might not be an actual issue. And DRM failed to protect anything as far as I know. Still.. would ...
