Re: BATTLEOPENEX is undocumented

I think BATTLEOPEN/BATTLEOPENED must be removed for these to come into use. Basically there should be two more columns in the lobby battle list: "Engine" and "Engine version". The lobby should preferably keep all engines in subfolders. /lobby/maps /lobby/games /lobby/spring_91.0/ /lobby/spring_94.0/...

Re: Spring 94.0

Can't compile the MT version I'm not up to date about building on linux but the guide here http://springrts.com/wiki/Building_Spring_on_Linux says the command should be "make spring". If you think there is something wrong with MT, first try checkout 94.0 and build it. If you get the same error ther...

Re: Spring version naming explained

If the game supports ASIM/GML: How do we work out if our game supports it or not? :P http://springrts.com/wiki/Asynchronous_Simulation its not compatible with normal hosts im right? It is compatible, but only the special MT hosts can use the MT exe. If you try it with a normal host, it will automat...

Re: Spring version naming explained

Can you also clarify which of these options are chosen on compile time and which can be configured at run time? The deprecated engine-default build equals picture 1 above, while the engine-multithreaded build can be run-time configured according to picture 2 or 3. where can i get the windows EXE of...

Spring version naming explained

Because the version naming scheme has changed, and someone requested a sticky, I am posting a cleaned up version of the explanation I posted in News. Terminology Asynchronicity : Tasks A, B, ... , N are solved in an interleaved fashion, instead of one after the other. Multithreading : Task A is spli...

AFAIK in ST mode Spring does a good job setting affinity automatically.
MT mode does it as well, but only if you download Spring MT 93.11.

Re: automated path regression testing

Although I did not check it in detail yet, an excellent idea. You could randomly spawn units across the map and issue random move orders. Some units will (and should) get stuck but the interesting part (provided that you make a very large number of such tests) is the percentage that succeed, and cou...

Re: Spring 93.1 / 93.2

Why is MT spring now the default? in the latest default build? Something we content devs need to know about? spring-singlethreaded is deprecated and will be removed. The reason is that spring can run in ST/MT mode depending on modinfo and user settings. There are no known compatibility issues in ST...

Re: Spring 93.1

the confusion stems from the very unfortunate name choice picked Yeah, the most confusing name is MT-Sim (which luckily is not a name I have chosen). It gives the impression of multithreaded simulation, although it only has multithreaded rendering and asynchronous simulation. I have fixed the namin...

Re: Spring 93.0

Is "-mno-tls-direct-seg-refs" really needed? It is the cause of your misaligned accesses and no it's not a bug in gcc, they are a direct consequence of this tag. MT uses http://www.kevinjhoffman.com/speedy-tls/ The library relies on exclusive use of either the FS register (32-bit) or GS register (6...
