Re: Random WIP

Wrong file format. Save it as an .s3o file; the .3do format is the old one used by all the old TA models.

Re: Random WIP

BA has gradients on everything, if your looking at your units from a distance it doesn't matter that much. I think the metal texture is nice too. BA uses models and textures from an age where specular wasn't possible . As for the gradients, they were by-and-large preshading, much like an AO map. An...

Re: Random WIP

It's the outlines. Ditch the outlines. I have a trick I use for making things look inset / outset: using layer styles, with outer and inner glow. If it's inset, set the inner glow to black, multiply, and fiddle the opacity / size 'till it looks good. The outer glow should be set to white, colour dod...

Re: Animation Editor

I'm in the middle of (trying to) write a maxscript exporter to send keyframed translations / rotations to Spring lua. What's the axis order of Spring again? ie up/down, left/right and front/back refer to which axis (x y z)?

Oh, and Spiked? You're going to owe me one right testicle.

Gunships auto-flanking ground targets

As the title says; as gunships have the obvious advantage of being airbourne, it would be nice if there was a widget that would make attacking gunships automatically fly around the back of a unit to gain flanking bonus from their attack. Doable?

Re: Random WIP

More of a random thing. Really, I'd need to experiment (mwahahaha. I have a labcoat and everything). Best way I'd like to do it is to have the mech attempt to jink or circle or just generally 'not stand still or move in straight line' around enemy units the moment they enter sight range (I'm sure I'...

Re: Random WIP

As said: HitByWeaponID. You can modify the damage taken bit a hit within that script. That + anim is the 'simple' way of doing it.

Re: Random WIP

It's intentional. Mechs in this case are used for their speed and manoeuvrability (as in most cases, it's cheaper to just use a tank which can't fall over...), and I figure anything capable of putting dents in tanks is going to do a number on an even more complex mecha anyway (they'd have to be ligh...

Re: Random WIP

Er... probably a bad plan (if it falls over, how does it get back up?). There's another mech that I haven't shown you yet that is all about charging enemy mechs and knocking them over (and then shooting them with something big and heavy) though.

Re: Random WIP

Been fiddlin' mah proportions, yo. I think I've got it, or at least it's better than it was earlier, anyway. Trying to get these damn things a decent range of movement is a bit of a bitch, design-wise. Bruce: Silly in what way? http://www.guessmyname.darkstars.co.uk/pictures/Pilade_WIP2.jpg For the ...

Still not quite happy with the legs. Might need to make them smaller. Any thoughts?

EDIT: Ah, think I got it. It's the upper leg part; it's too short, so the rest of the legs have to really cramp up together to make it balance.

Um... sorry, how do we use this? As in, install it. I have no idea what to do with the source you linked to. This is something I've wanted for ages.

Actually, couldn't you just turn on cloaked in Create()? I'm sure some #defines were added a while back to allow control of cloak state on the fly...

They are. Or at least, CA is. It's a Refraction shader of sorts, hybridized with that X-ray thingie from the looks of it.

Anyone else think Kernel Panic would be the best mod to use as a base for this?

Re: Random WIP

Just to prove I'm still kicking. I'm somewhat lacking in the 'free time' department at the moment. Also experimented with trying to get preshading working despite the camo teamcolour being layered over it.

Re: Random WIP

It's a case of necessity. You want polygons to give large area detail or surface extrusion; ie if you have something small that points out a long way (ie, an arial or most spikes) then yeah, you'll need polygons. You're defining the shape . If it's something small like a little panel or a little edg...
