Re: Starcraft II beta is out!

July 27th for the release date, I see you guys already knew this...

I wouldn't worry about everybody being ahead of you, there are still plenty of Copper players that try to tech directly to battlecruisers and stuff. I bounce between Silver and Gold depending on what race I'm playing.

Re: Cool missile firing anims

There are already standard ways to flag a container "must be on top of the stack" and "this side up" that are understood and followed by any reputable shipping company worldwide. The rear clearance is the trick - I'm not sure that's part of the standard set of instructions. Shipping a container isn'...

Just in case people didn't know, a bunch of places are now giving out keys with preorders. I believe the gamespot one is 5$.

Of course, you have to deal with gamespot... ugh. But still. Beta access for 5$ if you still want it.

Re: Global Warming: why isn't it warm? :(

It's getting to the point that even trying to publish honest science on the issue is a sure way to get political pressure applied to your funding source. So even the honest, apolitical scientists end up "taking sides" just to keep themselves in business.

Yeah, the new one is so much faster, it could be blue text on puke green background and I would still use it.

Re: Global Warming: why isn't it warm? :(

Actually, this isn't surprising if you know a bit of climate science. As the equator heats up, it increases the amount of energy in the Hadly cells (those big toroids of atmosphere that are responsible for things like the jet stream and the horse latitudes). The equatorial Hadly cell tends to expand...

Re: Board Games

I've always liked the looks of the frosted glass v clear glass sets, but all the transparency and reflection makes them difficult to play with.

One of my friends has an old set in his family that was brass v nickel steel, it looked pretty awesome.

Dude, I can not for the life of me figure out zerg. I usually play random 'cause I want to eventually learn all the races, and when I play it usually comes down to: Did I random terran? I win. Did I random protoss? Depends on opponent. Did I random zerg? I lose hard.

Re: DWARF FORTRESS

Also, anything that can't bleed seems impossible to kill. Like, you can send 40 dwarves at something like a simple skeleton, break every bone in the skeletons body, grind it to dust, and then watch as your soldiers take turns smacking it... till they all die of thirst 6 months later because it just ...

So, my day job sometimes involves electrical engineering. First off, if it is a cap, you'll have to find it. If you open the sucker up and there is one cap that is obviously swelled substantially or bust, well, there you go. A cap can swell a little (maybe 20%?) and still be OK, it's the really big ...

Re: Board Games

How can you play a game that has any luck % above 1%? It's total nonsense... You might as well take turns to throw a dice and whoever gets the highest number of dots wins. OK, if you were looking for a board game to play super pro competition mode, I can see you wanting very low randomness. But ran...

Re: Board Games

Catan is, IMO, the best boardgame ever created. It's far better balanced than Carcassonne or Puerto Rico. And honestly, most of the add-ons for Catan take away more in complexity than they add in fun. Plain vanilla Catan, with the 5-6 player pack if you have enough people, is really all you need.

Re: Health Care

I think a lot of the objection (at least the not-ridiculous objection - a lot of people are just kneejerking it) is this: We're overhauling health insurance but we're not fixing a lot of the other aspect of health care (pharma and hospital industries, etc.) that are pretty whack in this country. Jus...

I just got in through a friend of a friend @ blizz. On a trip for work (again, sigh) so I haven't had much time to play, but I can also answer some question if people have them. The most surprising thing for me: the minimum requirements are pessimistic - my laptop is substantially below the minimum ...

Re: need free webspace that does not suck

Google sites is awesome if you just need to get some content hosted, and has robust user controls, but they're pretty limited otherwise - it's like an old geocities site or something. You can't just upload an arbitrary website - it's pretty much limited to what they have already pre-canned on the se...

I'm excited about anything Valve makes. Well, maybe not another Left 4 Dead redo... but Portal 2 or HLe3 would both be win.
