Re: What makes a good *a map?

Delta Siege Dry I won't rant too much about it, because I've already went into good detail about it's merits quite a few times before - the way its team-games create isolated and varied responsibilities; - the way the metal creates good spawn points / good control areas; - how stable it is in game ...

Re: What makes a good *a map?

This map is just waaaay too big!!! I wonder, but I think I would love a smaller version of maybe between 2/3 to 1/4 (and likely with a slightly wider bridge). This is interesting, cause DSD is big too - or rather long.. If games had teleporter that under massive energy consumption opened two way ga...

Re: What makes a good *a map?

The Cold Place I really liked this map, yet not sure I know why. It had some qualities of Comet Catcher, the openness, space, simplicity. Yet it allowed for those borders. I really liked how the borders/frontiers/territories were established and then we would have fierce battles to defend those bor...

Re: What makes a good *a map?

Azure Rampart I really liked the mechanics of this map by Zsgsw .. svg .. wzs. (sorry dude, I could never memorize your nick :p) Each player would quickly and easily take over they're own starting "islands" but then would have to struggle heavily for the more open middle. There was metal everywhere...

Re: What makes a good *a map?

Supreme Battlefield I never thought this map works for me, I don't like it. Instead of ranting about why I like a map, I'll rant why I do *not* like this map. Teams are way too far apart. Even in the narrow straight of land, aggression between the bridge-players takes so long to reach the opponents...

Re: What makes a good *a map?

Gods of War Was that how it was called? The red planet with 5 islands? I liked how well balanced this map was, how it opened to so, so, so many different strategies. You could start air and harass the hell of your opponents or try to slowly gain another island. You could rush your comm to quickly c...

Re: What makes a good *a map?

... So 1 map per post, discuss a *a map, what you like about it, what makes it better than others? I couldn't figure out from the entire thread what is a "*a map", though somehow you appear to be asking why we find map X, Y and Z "good" maps. So, here goes: Comet Catcher . I love the simplicity, it...

Re: Question wrt. springlobby github comment

what is the long term lobby for spring games? nobody knows. i vote for an in-engine lobby. # I vote for a separate lobby. As it is now, playing Spring is pretty much a game of waiting for a match. If we have our "desktop" taken-over by Spring that's quite an entry-barrier keeping players from openi...

Re: Dynamic water

That raised me concerns with performance. That appears to be something that is exceedingly heavy on computation and also which has game impact, thus something not just graphical that you can opt-out on a not-uber computer. That raises me concerns, also, with technical implementation. I can imagine a...

Re: More than 10 years of spring rts!

Erm!? What? I'm 38 now - doesn't that mean I was 28 then? I was absolutely convinced I was way younger... Spring survived the doomsday prophecy that SupCom would kill it, then SupCom 2, then the map Speedmetal, then Starcrap 2, then Planetary Annihilation. It started as a remake of oTA (XTA) but the...

Re: Merry christmas

May the force be with us all (because it certainly isn't with any of the recent Star Wars movies). For the first time in my life I spent Christmas away from my family, in London. Went to see Les Miseráble in the West End with a friend, then we went out to Chinatown and ate crispy duck, then back hom...

Laptop with Optimus and NVidia, Ubuntu 14.04 LTS, Proprietary NVidia drivers installed be default by the OS (no Bumblebee, I believe).
