Re: Whitelists instead of Banlists for hosts

@Senna: I disagree. Caring about your privacy/anonimity should not prevent you from playing games. I propose a different technique instead of password locking / whitelisting. Simply require players to have some experience with N-1 vs N-1 mathces in game X before they are allowed into N vs N matches ...

0/10 proprietary software So? It is far better than anything remotely close that is open source and you don't need your own server. Perhaps you should look into NOTAlobby, then? From what I heard it is better than SL in almost every way. Oh and why stop there? I'm sure there is some commercial engi...

Re: Strange OpenGL error when compiling Source

You are most likely missing headers for OpenGL. I'd look at some spring compile guide and install the additional packages that might be mentioned there.

Re: [misc] The large db purge on September 2016

If only we required emails on registration so people could be reached in case they still want to keep their account. An invite system had crossed my mind before. It would create a sense of exclusivity among players, possibly increasing their chance of staying. And everyone new would have someone ol...

Re: Evolutionrts.info now redirects all requests to https

Most people won't give a crap, and that's fine, but Abma expressed some annoyance in the past about it. My host, inmotionhosting, refuses to support letsencrypt, because they're greedy bastards and don't want to lose SSL business, which is why I'm dropping their sorry asses in December. I've heard ...

Re: SPADS multihosting system

This is an extension/automation of the SPADS configuration macros support and a script to install SPADS for every engine version used.

I've added licenses and README (with howto) now.

This system is now about 2 years old. It was uploaded to notabug a year ago but I was lazy with announcements.

SPADS multihosting system

I am hereby officially releasing my SPADS multi-hosting system

https://notabug.org/specing/spring1944_spads

Despite having spring1944 in its name, it is also used for hosting The Cursed.

You can use my SPADS multi-hosting/management system:

https://notabug.org/specing/spring1944_spads

It does not depend on Spring:1944 (I'm also hosting The Cursed)

Re: Best practices for multi-hosting

I have a couple of questions: 1) Have you changed demo storage location from springDataDir/demos-server to varDir/demos-server? 2) As you said in PM, I can do spads.pl /path/to/spads.conf NAME=blabla and it will replace all instances of %NAME% with blabla. Is it possible to pass a file full of these...

Re: Changing Spring engine version

making spads install independent from spring version would be just as good. Will it keep the perl unitsync module inside var/ and autodetect when the spring version changes? Actually this sounds even better, as I do not have to make one spads install per engine version (yes, I know you told me about...

Re: Changing Spring engine version

Would it not be better to have spads.conf independent from engine version (since the spads installation is bound to a specific unitsync/engine anyway (with or without the preload hack)). This just means I have to change stuff in two different places when switching engine and from what I know, spads ...
