Re: Removing SM3 support

hmm, well, problem solved I guess.
I think the historical reference isn't important anymore, especially as we keep making commits affecting it whenever some wide change is done:
https://github.com/spring/spring/commit ... ts/Map/SM3
I'll remove it unless there are relevant objections.

Re: OpenGL context and macOS

Fixed Function Pipeline code will be removed, so compatibility mode won't be necessary. With core context, at least graphics should pose less of a problem.

Re: the best gift for a beginner help needed

I agree with gajop. I can't see any gift that could really assist me back in the day. Not sure about the math thing though - I think most simple 2D games can be done with highschool level math. Also, learning math is usually not fun. Jumping head on into coding games - that could be very fun! Althou...

Re: Maintenance branch

I guess you only want to use non-breaking changes because the zk selected 104 was bad in some way, i say this because https://github.com/spring/spring/commit/6971132e was excluded from maintenance. This commit was excluded due to my error, it was actually in the list of things ZK wanted to port. In...

Re: Maintenance branch

I guess the intention is that all play-testers should use the maintenance branch until, at some point in future, the develop branch is announced as "finished the GL upgrade", at which point we'll go back to testing develop? Not quite "finished", but when stability returns to be a higher priority in...

@gajop I've seen ATI/Intel printing things in DebugGL that nvidia did not.

That way it allows breaking and WIP openGL changes to continue unhindered in develop.

Maintenance branch

I've added a maintenance branch of spring that contains most non-opengl changes since 104.0. This is done as a temporary measure to keep new engine changes tested so bugs don't get the opportunity to ferment. A few guidelines: 1) No commits or pull requests will be made directly to this branch, only...

Re: Packaging 104 for Debian: shared libraries

gflags has custom changes so it can't use the main lib (it's unlikely that these changes be accepted upstream).
asio is possible, but I'm not going to work on that.

Re: Packaging 104 for Debian: shared libraries

As everything pretty much supports GL_EXT_texture_compression_s3tc nowadays,
I think it's time to remove squish and rg-etc1 from the engine.

Re: Visual Studio now supports MinGW

Not really.
The point of supporting MSVC is not so people can use the IDE.
It's because different architectures, compilers etc. expose bugs.

Re: Spring 104.0 released!

Those are all changes to when/if/how Springs does multithreading, some of which may improve performance, but which require no reaction from "normal" users. I believe he meant the changelog in general and just listed these as a particularly offending example. @Jools changelog for dummies: 1) Spring ...

Re: Turn based support

I wouldn't recommend using spring for that.
While it's possible, it will require all the work that it would on a different platform, plus work to suppress spring's real time features.
