I know the feeling, but if you follow Forbs tutorial you will get a result that is attractive with less work. Whereas if you follow the old tutorials you will have to work much harder to get something even remotely decent. Then later, you have to unlearn all that rubbish and learn the new way. This...

Sure, maybe it's not used much by people anymore if they don't know about it. But is that really the important thing? It's still one of the most helpful widgets for a newbie to have, as I said it should be default on.

Yep but you already provided the right instructions for that! Mine was just a suggestion what to do with them, get a simple, even flat images, ingame, before trying to do a proper, playable one.

Best to just first compile a really simple map, that you understand how compiling and the different map settings work, and how the different *maps translate to ingame. Only then start working on the proper design, height-, and texturemaps.

Ok, why should they be better? When you think about buffing some (relatively) unused unit, you have to think a bit more than just whether X is worth building if it's given Y change. You have to think how it affects the game at large, that you introduce a new powerful unit to it. And making it faster...

The "Gamer?" part is important because it sets the tone about what kind of games the engine is about, and of course any potential dev has to like the RTS games. Talking of levels and unlocks gives an MMO kind of wibe, which isn't accurate.
