Re: BA 7.76 Released!

As I said the cost increase is what invalidates it for most mineclearing duty. It was damn expensive for mineclearing even before the change (but then so are all other mineclearing solutions, apart from minelayer which in turn is very easily killed).

Juno metal cost per shot

I never got what the issue with the old Juno was. It was the only reliable solution to clearing minefields fast. Even if it still does that, the m cost per rocket makes it much more expensive for the job.

The anti-scout thing seems awfully gimmicky in comparison.

Split from 7.76 thread.

But they are the same genre.

I just don't get why people like SC2 so much outside of blizz drones and wannabe professionals. When there's the predecessor which does almost everything better than SC2...

Re: Starcrap 2 APM

SCBW had the unit selection limit, because they wanted to emphazise using good tactics instead of just massing a huge amount of units and sending those to the enemy killing everything. Of course it didn't really work to that effect in the end, but that was the idea. Hm did you read that somewhere o...

Re: spring replay site

How come the Glicko has such bad correlation with the ELO ratings? Could there be a typo in the algorithm or something?

Re: Starcrap 2 APM

Another thing SC1 had horrible pathing. It's still preferable to the horrible SC2 pathing, where everything moves in tight blobs. It makes engagements really short and doesn't encourage flanking and other maneuvering as much as SCBW pathing where units kept their formation. Moving up or down a ramp...

Nah. It's true. It'd been trivial for Blizzard to change the cap to whatever, if they'd wanted.

Re: Starcrap 2 APM

I think there is one big difference between SC1 and SC2 though: When SC1 was made, basically all games hard terrible interfaces. The UI was not made purposedly limited it just was like that. Now with SC2 technology has advanced and the limitations seem forced and artificial. That's actually not tru...

Re: BA 7.75 Released!

Yep, then it was discussed more and reverted back, I faintly remember that too. There is no reverting back listed on the changelog - I think you may be remembering wrongly here. http://springrts.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=44&t=25046&start=0#p467726 http://springfiles.com/spring/games/balanced-annihi...

Re: Poll: Is a game with more units better?

Ho, another thing. I actually like that the unit limits be reacheable (I hit that many times when the limits were lower, many years ago). It adds another layer of strategy. You'll find yourself getting rid of those fields of wind collectors to free up unit slots. Re considering your mass of fighter...

Re: BA 7.75 Released!

If someone offers a non-hacky patch that makes liche one-shot com without disturbing the rest of BA, then I'm personally happy to include it. BA has commanders in their own armor category, so could just increase damages towards this category? dont know which file licho's weapon is in, so example nu...

I thought I had made my position clear, but if not: If someone offers a non-hacky patch that makes liche one-shot com without disturbing the rest of BA, then I'm personally happy to include it. Alright, now it's clear to me too. Btw, I had a read of the changelog and discovered in 7.19 -> 7.20: " A...

If there were professional players of that calibre here, they would move their fingers with about comparable speed.

Re: Performance change from some years ago?

Hmm so you haven't managed to get Bumblebee working, what's your problem with it exactly? I've got a 660M, almost the same as your 650M, and can run BA just fine 1920x1080 and with high end detail settings.

Re: Does anyone use the IdleBuildersNEW widget?

ctrl-b ftw Yep but without this you won't know exactly when to press that. Always. Almost every player will greatly improve in BA if he does this constantly. I'm not kidding. I know what you mean, most people have a ton of idle cons without realising it, but knowing when they're idle without pressi...

Re: BA 7.75 Released!

Of course if something is widely used, acknowledged, and unchanged for years, of course I will assume that it is the way it indeed should be working. For a game thats part of a project which is permanently in development, no, that's not the right way to view things. If you bought something from a s...

Re: wanted: pretty default backgroundimage

I think the old screenshot is very good because it's very low key, it's got just a few main colors that match with the menu colors also.
So a new screenie should be something similar in my opinion.

Re: Starcrap 2 APM

The type of UI we have here allows you to be decent with a middling APM, this however doesn't mean you can be slow. It just takes more time to do each action, compare a drawing line with custom formations to clicking through 1a2a3a in SCBW - both take a comparable amount of time but the latter inclu...

2009 Map: http://springfiles.com/sites/default/files/images/spring/spring-maps/1239006868.jpg There's nothing halfassed about that compared to new SSMF maps. If you want to focus on quality, try making something with a heightmap approaching that level of detail. I don't know how the approach to ssmf...
