I think I've found equivalent Gimp commands... knorke - yes, I was definitely playing very fast and loose with th...

Sleight
Hi, it's me, PTSnoop. You may remember me from a few years back, when I put together the Complete Guide To Making A Spring Game . This year I'm taking part in OneGameAMonth , and for this month's Game Prototype Challenge I decided to brush off my old meagre skills and make a Spring game in a week. h...

Re: Is there a map/mod that doesn't use DDS textures?
That's a good point. I'd forgotten about groundplates too...
Static Friction earlier than 0.5.1 doesn't use dds for anything. Fixed. (The one I linked to is fine, though.)

Re: Let's make a Tutorial Game for new modders
Sounds like the unitdef isn't seeing the unit script. Does it have a line ' script = "whateverthescriptscalled.lua", ' ?
And/or: do you have LuaRules/Gadgets/unit_script.lua in place?

Re: RTS Design Theory Thread
Just wondering. What do you guys reckon is the best way to prevent a game from being like this?Erik wrote:What makes games dull is when the goal is always "build base, kil enemy base" and the way to achieve that is always the same "build A build B build another A, factory ..."

Re: ideas....
I don't think stopping people from hosting games is going to solve the 12v12 BADSD problem. You only need one person willing to pay to host a big BA game, so those will still be around. All you'd be doing is cutting down on the number of less-popular-but-interesting maps and games. And once you star...

Re: ideas....
the servers wouldnt be 100% free. code would be free, everything... except servers with their epic features i mentioned above. So you're saying, change the main server from being free and open source to being charging-for-features and closed source? I reckon plenty of people would see that as selli...

Re: ideas....
GNU GPL does allow people to charge money (RHEL does this), as long as you release the code. However, once you've released the code there's nothing stopping other people giving it away for free. I'm pretty sure that if the official server started charging for some features, someone would set up an u...

Request: LoS
Yes, I know pressing 'l;' in game gives LoS view. But it doesn't work with shadows (and doesn't update particularly quickly). Would it be possible to reimplement some sort of Fog of War widget that doesn't interfere with shadows? (Or maybe some way of faking shadows by lua, that works with pre-exist...

Re: Return of the Mad-Guy
- The Cursed and Conflict Terra have appeared since you were last on the forums. Both are pretty good. - "Mods" have been pretty much completely renamed "games", throughout. - CA is now TA-IP-free, renamed to Zero-K, and has its own lobby and single-player mission editor. - Lua p...

Re: Gimp 2.7.2
I've been using the 2.7.3 daily builds on Linux, since I couldn't find a .deb for 2.7.2. Single window mode is a *huge* improvement. The other big difference is that Ctrl+S and Ctrl+Shift+S only save as xcf, and you need to use Ctrl+E and Ctrl+Shift+E to export to anything else, which is taking some...

Re: RTS Design Theory Thread
"Epic scale" may be overrated, but I've seen a lot of more recent strategy games go too far in the other direction. Dawn of War 2 is a pretty good RPG, but there's not much room for strategy when you've only got four units. And Command and Conquer 4... enough said.

Re: Decline in the number of players
http://www.opensource.org/docs/osd "Open Source" has a very specific meaning; it's not just "I can get at the source code if I decompile it and do some other things". To be open source, a program needs to be under a license that encourages modification and redistribution. Minecra...
