The test cases are provided by the challenge set. The goal of the assignment is to pass as many test cases as possible.

I added doc blocks a little while after I posted this here.

Re: C++ help

Thanks for the advice Kloot! I really appreciate it. Yeah, the validity checks were for things directly specified by the assignment, and I intentionally used the priority queue to order the items and avoid repeated factors (which you were correct in guessing were irrelevant to the assignment). I pic...

C++ help

I'm interviewing for a position at a local company, and part of the interview process is a coding assignment. The difficulty I'm having is that my C++ is self taught and I'm not as confident with the quality of my code as I would be if it were Java or Python. They know C++ isn't my best language at ...

Re: "turing test passed"

A version of the Turing test has been passed for a long time. It's relatively easy to make a bot that is indistinguishable from a human who wants to be an uncooperative troll.

Re: Can I use this engine for a First-Person Shooter?

There's a major rift in games regarding how they handle lag. First person shooters in almost all cases account for the difference in time between you performing an action and the other player learning about that action with a series of calculations that predict the relative positions of the players ...

The biggest trick is to spawn in an area that's not too dangerous and provides you the minerals you need.

Not super recently... but it's mostly superficial stuff that's changed since the last time I played. You gonna play on default graphics or DL a graphics pack?

Re: Make me a moderator

Getting sick of seeing all this spam, could I be moderator temporarily until we get a proper solution just so I can delete it all? I'm probably, in fact, very probably the current most frequent checker of these forums. It's my homepage, I check it like a Facebook addict when I have nothing better t...

Re: Make me a moderator

I still remember the days we had troll threads dedicated to individual community members, and Swift said it wasn't an issue, that was a real boost of confidence in moderation at the time eh? I remember this differently... But it's entirely possible there was referential content I was missing... or ...

Re: Extra Credits: Balancing for Skill

You cited no reason why something being obscure or unintended by devs means it's bad. If it's fun, interesting and doesn't break the rest of the game, where's the issue? Something unintended by the devs doesn't make it bad. Something obscure is bad, because if a good player does it to a weaker play...

at that level, yes, they have better muscle memory but not many of the people around here are at that level. Most of the people at that level are not around much any more or seldom participate in these sort of threads. That is why I find them so frustrating. People talk about spring like they are a...

Re: Extra Credits: Balancing for Skill

However, generally when players talk about "skill" in a gaming environment, they're talking about a combination of talent, natural advantage, and actual skill. Professional Starcraft 2 players will attribute their success to "skill" however, it's hard to argue that they don't ha...

Re: Extra Credits: Balancing for Skill

Then we are in agreement of that graph, just with disagreeing definitions on what skill is. I still wouldn't define skill as time invested to obtain it (since that's usually not the same for each person), but would rather try to define it as the player's effective capability in the game: APM is a o...

On some level I'm honored to see a thread like this actually, for the record :) We've had a lot of different developers contribute to the project over the years, however, I can't recall one specifically that would meet all the requirements you're posing. The majority of spring developers have been E...

Re: Extra Credits: Balancing for Skill

http://i.imgur.com/V78m9.jpg I could only agree with that if the Skill axis is on log scale.. otherwise you would want power to go exponentially up. The real reason why, is that there's a limit of how much humans can be skilled, and going from skill level (whatever that is) 1 to 2 takes some x effo...
