Maybe in theory there is this license issue. But in practice: I think you overestimate the importance of spring and its lobbies. There's nobody around here anymore so it has no practical value.

There are far larger communities if you want to go the legal way.

Re: which lobby is most popular nowadays? springlobby? zerok? other? my old favorite TASclient is long dead.

That's not the latest version, I think it's abma's personal copy that he uploaded there. Google for tasclientlatest and you should find version 1.09. I don't think all of it is open source, that's the issue. But the real issue is of course lack of communication and pragmatism. You should be aware th...

It's nothing like that. Just some conflict about source code that people couldn't agree on. But if you just want to play the game you can use tasclient.

Tasclient still works, but the moderators block linking to it on this forum so you have to google for it.

Re: Which is the game that best represents the Spring engine?

But we do make just a game. It's just that at some point the game was renamed to engine and the mods were renamed to games.

Re: List of staff

It would be nice to give me some power :-) Most people here don't know me well, but I've worked quiet hard to make BA community less toxic. Having a bit more power would help me. Honestly, at this point with the community: any change is a change for the better. And also the point that bringing in n...

Re: List of staff

There is a reason that we have term limits and I don't think that we have any moderator at all here who is fresh enough to have been on his seat less than 5 years. Even Vladimir Putin, Erdogan and African dictators have more rotation that that. The reason is that after a few years you become complac...

List of staff

Is there a list somewhere of the current staff (moderators etc) and also of how long they have been on their current position?

You know, for transparency if that still means anything.

River rule

I wonder if there is any standard agreement on the river rule, namely that you can not/should not/is impolite to cross the river with your commander very early in the game. It's been a sort of a gentleman's rule but it isn't really followed. Ofc course applies to maps with a clear river/partition in...

Re: MO_PreventCombomb possible rework

I think combomb behavior that changes depened if its last com or not last com should be avoided. Gameplay mechanics should be consistent and should not change in the course of the game (my opinion): - it feels arbitrary and unnatural. Cannot be justified by any physical laws or logic (like laser fa...

Re: Mod unit list tool?

I was actually looking for a way to do this outside spring. Keep in mind that it's perfectly possible to create unitdefs dynamically on game load (but hardly any projects utilize that yet). So any info you gather outside of game can in theory have little resemblance to what is in game. The code zwz...

Re: Don't use upspring!

That's why thread splitting is such a confusing dick move. Apologies to you gajop, but it wasn't easy to see that this was a split thread.

Thread integrity would be more helpful to the community than splitting them. Even places like reddit don't split threads.

Re: MO_PreventCombomb possible rework

Have a look at XTA:s comends gadget: we've had it working for many years, and basically it works like this:
- if you are last commander and dgun opponent, you lose
- if you laser last commander to death you win
- it also has nice staggered comends explosions
