Re: compat mode 104

The very changes that you're asking to be undone/removed are the changes necessary for MacOS support to be possible. Apple removed support for the those older versions of OpenGL, so your request would reduce not improve compatibility for those users. Even ignoring that, you're asking for several hun...

Re: The end of the maintenance branch

As an aside, Abma, if you want buildbot that's your prerogative, but if you feel that an alternative can meet feature parity then there are people who can help, the decision is yours in the end

Re: The end of the maintenance branch

"Everyone is using it" should be a reason in itself to NOT use it. It is a de-facto monopoly. If Abma gets hit by a bus we're fucked. GitHub actions has millions of people who know how it works and use it everyday, as do the competitors and opensource systems. Our buildbot has 1. Everythi...

Re: The end of the maintenance branch

As an aside, it would be a good idea to take a tagged version and manually create a GH release, and upload the built files. That should secure it from any automated scripts or branch deletion

Re: The end of the maintenance branch

Re: GH Actions and proprietary-ness, we can run GH Action runners so we aren't relying purely on their infrastructure, but, the actions themselves run bash/shell commands in an Ubuntu/Debian environment. There's no reason they can't be compiled into a standardised shell script. At that point you can...

Re: AI Interface: GetLosMap() might be broken (or wrong usage?)

The new CPP API is undocumented, I used it for Shard, and there are big sections of it that don't have the objects and methods generated for it. It's a noble endeavour but unless you know how Awk scripts work and run on a Linux machine, you're out of luck. The legacy CPP API is a well known quantity...

Re: DeepMando - the future of Spring combat AI

I thought I had bravado when I introduced NTai, but this takes the biscuit. At least I had dotwars showing it beat every other AI :) I look forward to seeing this from Mando

Re: [misc] upgrading to phpbb 3.3.1 aka the upgrade hell

Notes: - There's an apt package that puts apt update and upgrades in the background. For minor package updates this should save time - PHP 8.0 is out later this year, and PHP 7.4 has been out for a while, given that 7.3 is EOL December 7th 2021 we might as well future-proof with PHP 7.4 - Did compos...

Re: The end of the maintenance branch

I suspect Ares is running the gpl violation engine Zerver worked on. He's not even using the spring engine. I've heard a number of people are still using it and that it's actively sought after purely for FPS

Re: The end of the maintenance branch

This thread has nothing to do with ownership or control of the engine, that's not what's being discussed. To try and summarize, if I understand correctly: there is an old maintenance branch 104 that has had a handful of ongoing fixes but isn't gettng new features, and has major technical issues righ...

Re: Which TA-derived games work singleplayer

I tried multiple times to compile TASClient back in the day, it was easier to build my own lobby. So I did! As for validais.lua, people argued and there was very little compromise. It was a very static and unyielding stance by those wanting a whitelist with the prime movers showing no interest in ad...

Re: Looking to start a C# AI - Approaches?

NTai didn't crash the engine, it handled that situation. Most native AIs crash the engine deliberatley for ideological reasons. There are some fundamental problems here: 1: Native AIs regardless of their language have no insight into the internals of games that use lua rule, there's only 2 windows i...

Re: Diary of an insane man

Some possibly helpful notes: - The great AF exile should be lifted once a MacOS build can play the latest BAR, I honestly don't care about full graphics, I'm only really interested in it being usable - It surprises me that if I want to render a square I have to do all the OpenGL calls myself, meanin...

Re: lua sockets and dynamic content

Lua AIs could always do this kind of thing, but most Lua AIs run in synced land, which stops this from happening. If a Lua AI ran unsynced however, it could run faster, store data on the filesystem, make network requests, and generally be far better. For example, I wrote an async building placement ...

Re: Remove some native AIs from spring?

AAI etc were built with a paradigm Kloot pushed where if something went wrong in the AI, it was better to hard crash, rather than feign a working AI and ruin the gameplay for the player. The player would then know something went wrong, report the bug, and it would get fixed. Hence, they're not built...

Re: Mac have officially deprecated opengl

Deprecation doesn't mean removal, and I doubt they will remove it for quite a while. I understand them wanting to focus on Metal for future things though. In the meantime, the only roadblock to MacOS support at the moment is GL 4.1, which affects much more than the Mac As an aside, we could always m...
