Re: CA has been nominated for the Digital Man competition?
Well, according to their blog, CA is doing pretty well in the polls.. I wonder when their team will pop up here, they sort of need to at least contact the projects they want to re-distribute, for decency's sake... I was suprised to see the other Spring-engine games on there too, pretty neat. I wonde...

Re: Google App Engine + Python
Alternately, I've heard that Syntensity has done wonderful things with making free FPS development easy. Thanks for the mention, don't forget that Syntensity also has a web-plugin and has uses Javascript for scripting, with extra python-plugin goodness for other utilities. We've also been tempted a...

CA has been nominated for the Digital Man competition?
Hmm, I saw that CA was nominated for the Digital Man Competition Pretty odd format to run it though, and the prize seems to be the honor of being distributed through their upcomming content delivery system (Steam-like thing) which isn't even mentioned on the blog 0.o A bit of web-research gave me th...

Re: Random RPG models
Hey Pappe, very nice models, I told the guys at Dungeonhack and JCRPG about it, they're very impressed :)
If you have any other models lying around that you wouldn't mind sharing, OpenGameArt is a very nice site for doing just that

Re: 0AD OpenSource Historical RTS (yummy art)
It doesn't really play yet, they need gameplay devs! And I don't think balance would be such a big problem when it comes to maps.. And if it is just limit maps to one or two factions, easy as that

Re: 0AD OpenSource Historical RTS (yummy art)
If it where pre-rendered and dished out isometrically, maybe, but then it would be one heck of a pretty one. But its all 3d, and all there for anyone to use...

0AD OpenSource Historical RTS (yummy art)
0 AD is a rather promising opensource rts, it has nice art resources (that would work well in a fantasy/historical spring game maybe?), but they're struggling with their game code.. So check it out, maybe there are a few nice things that you can find there, or help out with Site : http://wildfiregam...

Re: I have a brilliant idea but want to do none of teh work....
I made a long and detailed response explaining why I'm an idea man. Basically sinbadev + a twist. But, the posting failed, and now it turns out that laziness would be closer to the truth

I'd be glad if you did :) .. Popped on the irc channel yesterday night, didn't seem like anyone was awake.
I'm not really a fan of mailing lists, but I'll try it out in this case

Re: Spring on DJL Linux Games Repository.
Yep, the ubuntu method is pretty much set, although you do have to do a bit of searching to find it. Playdeb is also a very cool service, pity it only works for debian derivatives..

Re: Civilian Faction
heh... it's an interesting idea for sure; im not sure how well it would integrate into the current mods, for the reasons some have mentioned... but on the other hand if there WERE a mod where the basis of economy was from capturing / harvesting / working with NPCs, then this could become a very lul...

Re: Civilian Faction
Sorry, whenever there is a place in which 2 letters can be placed, my fingers instinctively twitch, and ends up with me writing rather ridiculous words.. If spell check doesn't catch it, there is no way that I will, hah. (a little 'stache on the robot would look very funny too, come to think of it :...

Re: Civilian Faction
The original post wasn't intended to be canon, I just wanted to start the discussion. I could make a more detailed version though, where we categorize the different versions maybe (Totally Nonintrusive < Slightly gameplay effecting < Totally Gameplay changing).

Re: Civilian Faction
Only for the civilian side.. Not for the entire game. The civilian side won't be using the same builders etc, so I dont think it would be that hard.. Heck, the civilians dont even have to have any builders. You could give them a limited amount of points, and they can drop build anywhere similar to t...

Re: Civilian Faction
Yes, removing that option is the tricky part. But I'm sure you could lua it out somehow (I've never scripted for spring, but there must be a onRecieve or onCreate call, and a hp modifier, so whenever the civ team recieves a unit it self destructs)

Re: Civilian Faction
Somehow I think you misunderstand, smoth.. The civ faction cannot ally with the military players, they are completely separate from the rest of the game, resources can't be auto shared, only gifted (and not necessarily, either). The civ units cannot gain units or reasources from any other player (th...

Re: Civilian Faction
Cant current specs also ruin games by telling players what other players are doing? And if civilians always troll games in this way, wouldn't it become meta to destroy civilians whenever you see them? And if they are destroyed constantly, for no reason, don't they sort of have a reason to retaliate?...
