Working Mac Build?
It seems like there's been Mac build issues for several years now. Where can I find the last working build that would run on a current mac?

Re: Windows 10
I use Windows only to play games so as long as my games continue to support win7 (and they will for years to come) I see zero point in upgrading. I'd still be on on XP except I got win7 for "free" when I bought a laptop and I wanted 64-bit and DX10 support on my desktop. Despite being an O...

Re: Engine Testing - 97.0.1-206-g8576ee8 (06. Aug 2014)
Are you sure sliding into terrain is still a problem? Impassable terrain now seems to act as a hard impassible barrier to units. I'm not sure sliding is/was a problem at all because my testing methods were imprecise. I just suspected it as a cause of CPU spikes in large-scale games because I notice...

Re: Engine Testing - 97.0.1-206-g8576ee8 (06. Aug 2014)
The problem with the push code is that, like explosions, it ignores most of the regular movement rules and applies a basic physical impulse to the unit. This is realistic and efficient but the catch is any unit moved via an impulse can only return to its original position via another impulse in the ...

Re: Engine Testing - 97.0.1-206-g8576ee8 (06. Aug 2014)
I was experimenting about a year ago with the possibility of running games with thousands of units instead of hundreds. I wrote a map script to spawn 5,000 - 10,000 units then used the (alt-b) interface and some C++ profiling tools to try and see where the CPU was being hit hardest, particularly dur...

Re: Unsynced Lua AIs
I have a very good understanding of the current state of the Lua AI interface, thought I'd clarify some information because I think some people might be looking for easy answers that don't actually exist. For brevity AI means "Lua AI" unless I specifically say "native AI" (meanin...

Star Swarm: GPU melting tech demo worth a look
Tried out this tech demo. It's intended for Freelancer-style space sims and such but with an emphasis on pushing around as many ships as possible (5000+). http://store.steampowered.com/app/267130/ They are planning a Mantle version as well which will hopefully bring some clarity to the pro/con Mantl...

Speculating here but I'm thinking this might be relevant: [f=0000000] GL renderer: AMD Radeon R9 200 Series [f=0000000] GLSL version: 4.30 [f=0000000] GLEW version: 1.5.8 [f=0000000] Video RAM: unknown You have a video card that's only been out a couple of months, there might be some compatibility i...

Re: Don't have rapid...?
If you are using FF make sure it isn't blocking Java from running. New versions do this by default because Java is a massive security hole and Oracle have a terrible track record for fixing exploits. There should be a yellow notification bar at the top or bottom of the page with a button to allow Ja...

Re: sourceforge ships drive-by downloaders
All fair points. If the engine is such an insignificant factor relative to the games/maps and a considerable amount of people are probably getting it through emerge/yum/apt anyway then I wouldn't burn any time on it either.

Re: sourceforge ships drive-by downloaders
i have to download a minimum of 500+MB every time (no idea how they manage to do that). Well, what you seem to be describing is either NOT differential compression or a very inefficient use of it. It might be because Steam's DRM and/or compression cause large changes to the gcf/ncf files when there...

Re: sourceforge ships drive-by downloaders
Not a high priority while the SF crapware remains optional but I do like the sound of the Github releases tool. If I'm reading it correctly it even seems to write your release notes for you (based on commit history). It's a shame Windows is such a retarded platform when it comes to building software...

Spring1944 also has an example of custom resources (based on territory occupied - similiar to Company of Heroes). The Spring engine will manage 2 resources (essentially metal/energy like TA) but you can bypass the engine and manage your own resources in Lua code. Then when a harvester pulls in to yo...

Re: Crazy Game Idea ( Looking for Dev's to make it a reality
So your players get fake money for fake photos of fake storms? Even movies about storm chasing (eg "Twister") never really caught on. I don't really see your game taking off since the only reasons to chase storms are: * Science * Adrenaline seeking * Stupidity None of these are easily capt...

Re: How about big games 16 vs 16 and 32 vs 32? (-)
In my experience the biggest issues with games that size: * Getting everybody to ready up without some dickface who thinks the game must be balanced a certain way or have a certain number of players constantly preventing game from starting. * Players dropping out, crashing and leaving the game unbal...

Re: Missing waypoint line without shift
Run spring directly and go to settings - you can change it there. No that won't work here, cmdcolors.txt is a separate config file Feature request. Seems like functionality that could be replaced with config vars, modoptions, lua functions and/or chat commands? Having a seperate, non-lua config fil...

Glad you fixed it. Out of curiousity what driver package do you use for that card? I have an old 1950xt which Catalyst stopped supporting more than 5 years ago. From memory I think I switched to the Omega drivers but that was an XP machine. I'm just curious what still works in case I ever use or don...

Re: gpl violation 94-20130711 has been released
your code isn't merely a better spring engine it requires heavy restructuring. Ba may not be so bad but given our past coversations, I would say I recall it being very different. 2) from then on all new code also has to fit within the restrictions of your new code. Otherwise you will have to patch ...
