Re: Tabula cut on a CNC mill

Ditto to all El said. I know a few who designed and built their own. The electronics are a pain, and in my opinion, there is a good reason to help each other along. I think El will agree with me on this one, The sad part about the electronics is its hard, and you only need to know how to do it long ...

Re: Tabula cut on a CNC mill

And the truth of the matter is, There is one part that we CAN give you a part list on, (The electronics), because thats the only part that matters. As far as the rest of the "Machine", You just need a 'Thing' that will allow 3 axis of movement (X,Y, Z), and a way to make the movement work ...

Re: Tabula cut on a CNC mill

My resolution is better than .001". But when you carving soemthing thats 2x3, you don't need (nor want" to have ti taked 4 days to carve that much detail. Even i carve by 4x by 4x maps, the reolution used will be even lower, so it won't take forever. And, Concerning machine size. Smaller m...

Re: Tabula cut on a CNC mill

I (and I assume KB) would be happy to mentor anyone else interested in building their own CNC rig. I think you can pull it off in the 4x4 or 4x8 size for between $1500-2000 depending on parts. Of couse, If your going to spend that kind of money, You better make something with it worth showing for i...

Re: Tabula cut on a CNC mill

That is awesome.
Secondly,
I have plans to have "printed" toy models of some of the TA units (BA mod). I think my boy would enjoy having a box of units to pretend around with. Of couse, i don't know the cost yet, but i think i may run a few.

Re: Tabula cut on a CNC mill

My biggest concern was, actually, scale. Since i have made 3 of these maps, and each time the scales were diff.

It would probably make sense to use like, model train scaling conventions for the models. Can you imagine a Warhammer40K TA game? I might actually get into tabletop gaming if that happened.

Re: Tabula cut on a CNC mill

Actually, the machien that cut the Map, its just like a makerbot, except its really really big, And it lacks a Plastruder (Mechanical Gluegun-thingy)

The idea is, add an extruder, and make my own.

Re: Tabula cut on a CNC mill

My copy of KB's article arrived Saturday. I think there's a single shot of Spring Map edit, but Spring and SpringMapEdit are both namechecked. An indepth copy of his instructions are available on http://wrdm.ag/moontable . I'd post scans but I'd really prefer Wired not sue me. If you're at a bookst...

Re: Spring to be featured in Wired Magazine

BA on MoonQ20 (The article covers the process and construction of the table. The final project is a short (sit on the floor at it) game/play table measuring 2ft by 3ft. Above the carving will be plexiglass. 2 boys are getting the table, and so it will be a leggo storage/play item. (Lego bins stow un...

Wired came over this weekend. Spent nearly 12 hours at my place, shooting video, taking pictures. (They even got some game footage).

Supposed to be in the April issue.

Re: Spring to be featured in Wired Magazine

Asymetrical is wonderful. And i can carve deeper. Before, i had a limited budget, and experience. Now i have large bits (longer, for deeper projects). Making smaller projects was fine because if a small one worked, a large would aswell, and smaller takes less materials, and smaller bits (Which is al...

Re: Spring to be featured in Wired Magazine

Sure you don't wanna make some room for this? I see making it rectangular with 2 rows of unit reliefs on both ends to make the map more rectangular.

Could be pretty sweet.

Re: Spring to be featured in Wired Magazine

my machine can accurately carve to within .004". As for how "Small" a carving i can do, i think i would have to say, i can make carvings more detailed than wood can handle, but if it could handle it, the the carvings can be as detailed as you are able to perceive with your eyes. I can...

Spring to be featured in Wired Magazine
