Yeah, throw more bullshit in. The more you throw the sooner you'll join your recently perma banned friend.

Re: Spring's Broken Windows

My impression is that you get withdrawal symptoms in case you don't see shit boiling, so you instigate the drama.
Choose your words carefully:

Re: The end of the maintenance branch

Yeah I had implementation of some modern strictly unsynced particle system in mind for some time, but things have proven to take much more time than anticipated, so for now this is this looks ~107-ish. Currently it's not possible to get access to CEG texture atlasses, but overall it should not be ha...

Re: The end of the maintenance branch

wrt roadmap: for me it looks like "develop" needs to be renamed to sth. like opengl4test and transition needs to be renamed to develop. not sure how to find a conclusion here: would be nice when kloot posts his opinion. I agree, it's time to pronounce the develop too unreachable for curre...

Re: The end of the maintenance branch

Dunno why people are so fixated on numbers, they are easiest to change

Generally it's to underline the fact 105 and BAR branch 105.1 are supposed to be compatible and only bring additional capabilities, while 106 will have some manageable API changes.

Next engine features poll

Wanna do a short poll to gauge the state of mind of those whom I don't speak directly too. This poll is only for major or lead spring game devs, who can speak on behalf of the game interests they represent. Only one reply per game please. Reply 1,2,3... respectively to questions below. 1) Name the s...

Re: Keep 3do model support

You are right in the sense: whoever does the job decides what is right and what is not. In the same time we cannot distance from the community needs too much otherwise a very few or none will be using new engines. Some games use 3do exclusively (I'll leave IPR infringement question out) and the lack...

Re: The end of the maintenance branch

on MF we can't switch to either BAR or develop engines as some players don't meet the GL4 requirement yet. Each game leader decides if they want performance or stay compatible with every calculator class PC Either way, it seems to me that the best course of action would be to move/rename the curren...

Re: The end of the maintenance branch

you don't need to convice me for that. i'm pro gh actions, but: the current code for gh is very bad as it added a lot of duplicate code. this needs to be fixed before its useful. I'm all in for improvements. But I would say what I did is the pinnacle of my capabilities. I have no devops background,...

Re: The end of the maintenance branch

My perspective is following: No one has been able to move to the develop branch and I don't see anyone will. AFAIK BAR is the only game working on moving rendering to GL4 and despite the efforts we are far from completion yet: It's the reality that the current accrued assets such as widgets will sta...

Re: What graphics card do you use for Spring RTS? Looking to buy one.

That's actually a quite outdated point of view back from the old days when it still was ATI and not AMD. Especially on Linux things have turned around as NVIDIA only delivers proprietary drivers while AMD delivers open source drivers. I respectfully disagree. I deal with AMD OpenGL bugs for the las...

Re: What graphics card do you use for Spring RTS? Looking to buy one.

The best cards are made by NVIDIA. AMD might have edge in raw power, but their drivers are horrible, especially for OpenGL and especially on Linux.
So pick any 30xx card for your budget. Should provide you enough value for coming years.

Re: Keep 3do model support

AlphaPass is something most of the games replace with LUPS transparency, but it's anyway important for drawing ghosted buildings and cannot be left empty. Status quo: https://springrts.com/phpbb/download/file.php?mode=view&id=11380 Work In Progress: https://springrts.com/phpbb/download/file.php?...

Not that I care about BA fate, yet I find it strange to hand over the once venerable game into the hands of well known troll, who hurt and continue hurting the engine development tremendously.

Re: Keep 3do model support

Well, CUnitDrawer class is something special in spring. It took me most of the weekend to get from early in-place prototype to something more or less sustainable. 200+ FPS vs ~30-40 FPS as in status quo. https://springrts.com/phpbb/download/file.php?mode=view&id=11377 P.S. Don't mind shading, as...

Super Mario wrote: 11 Apr 2021, 19:37 Other than porting spring to modern opengl, do you have any other improvements regarding performance that you have in mind?
No. But if I happen to see the part that can be MT-ed, I'll MT it without any specific plan.
That said, right now the biggest perf. hog is rendering.
