Re: Notes about performance, 105.0 vs 106.0 vs bar105 engines
How representative of engine performance is it to just spawn in a bunch of units and look at them vs running a replay of big battles?

It's worth adding that if anybody wants to join we're always looking for contributors. We've recently had a number join the mapping team and it's a really welcoming group as a whole.

Re: Why cant a ladder be implemented back in?
Currently at the stage of writing the rating system to run on the middleware server so can use it in matchmaking, put it in a nice web-interface etc etc.
There will be discussions on the BAR discord as to how we implement those things.

Re: Why cant a ladder be implemented back in?
I'm literally working on it tonight! BAR should have solo matchmaking in the near future with team based not _too_ long after that (support for parties too).
The specifics on how we'll handle seasons/cups etc is undecided though.

Does this mean SpringLobby is going to be updating more often again or is it considered stable with bug fixes only?

Re: A lookback
My involvement is mostly server/infra for one of the games but I've messaged one of the people working on the engine itself who can speak far more authoritatively than myself on the technical questions. Three of the discords that may most interest you are: https://discord.gg/8yaP8xne - Official spri...

I'm not seeing a question! Are you saying you want to help with the spring project (if so in what capacity?) or do you have questions about how it's implemented etc etc?

So I got distracted and it's been a bit more than a week but we're at V1.0.0
There are some new features beyond the pure Uberserver replication.

Re: Teiserver - Spring compatible middleware server
BAR has now moved over to Teiserver and aside from a few minor issues it's been very smooth (minor ongoing issue with SLDB stuff). I expect to be declaring it as v1.0 next week; the CPU and Memory usage of the server is near enough idle except for when a new release takes place whereupon it spikes f...

Thanks for the heads up, I'll update them now. I found the guides were getting longer and more specific so wanted to categorise them properly.

970 here, looking to upgrade it when I get a chance but it's powering my two 1440p monitors fine.

Re: Teiserver - Spring compatible middleware server
Cheers for the encouragement. I've had 1 or 2 people express interest in this since I posted here. I've improved the documentation and while it's not yet finished I hope it is enough for you to get started with if you are interested.

Re: Keep Spring engine usable by all
What stops those that don't want to update from hosting their own server? I just always assumed until now they'd been doing that but your post implies they're using a server hosted by somebody else and that person wants to use a newer engine so is enforcing it. Have I got that correct?

Teiserver - Spring compatible middleware server
I've been working on a possible Uberserver alternative . Pending a few live tests it's now at the 1.0 stage and open source/MIT license so free for anybody else to use if they want to. Currently I've only been testing it with Chobby as used by the BAR team so it's possible (likely?) there are small ...

Re: Keep Spring engine usable by all
I'm still not understanding. I've read through what you said and I think there's an element of distraction. I'm not fussed about the models thing, I'm trying to understand how making changes to new versions of the engine will affect those using an older version. You said the botflag was lobby side, ...

Re: Keep Spring engine usable by all
Thank you for the history lesson (not sarcasm, it's all before my time so legitimately helpful) saturnV. They disliked to see the most popular game using an old engine version. So they put in place a "botflag system" that limited hosts on old engine version to max 8 players. Everything mak...

You've not responded to my points in the slightest; instead you've responded with a loaded statement. I'm not sure I can provide the help/answers you are looking for.

Re: Keep Spring engine usable by all
I'm not familiar no; my guess from context is they fall out of popularity as other mods implement new features, improvements and changes the community prefer. Just like everywhere else in life; if you've got people actively developing your mod then you have a choice to spend time/energy on implement...
