Re: Humor me with this damn game
Catastrophic failure-video mode not supported. win7 x64, intel cpu, nvidia 8800gt with recent drivers, updated java, 1920*1200 rez. Shit, that meant it couldn't find a video mode with the right refresh rate and color depth. I modified it to be more lenient before it outright crashes, so hopefully t...

Humor me with this damn game
I've been working on this game on and off for a couple years now, and it's become way more involved than I had originally anticipated. It's finally to the point of being actually *sort of* playable, though certainly not nearly complete or balanced. The AI isn't yet functional, but the network play s...

Re: Computer hardware advice
I own a 4850 and am very pleased, even though I bought it when it was $200 :(. Can run crysis on all high settings completely playable, or all very high settings with a little overclocking. If you do go with this card, get one that comes with a non-stock cooler if at all possible, as it is a POS. Oh...

Re: FPS LAN game suggestions
Assuming gfx aren't am issue, I'd really recommend Rainbow 6: RogueSpear/Blackthorn. Very fun on LAN with a few people, drinking or not, though probably not for heavy drinking. Also, make sure it's on hardest difficulty.

Re: Starcraft 2 split into three games???
I must admit I am a little disappointed at this too, but don't understand why this bothers you so much. You are getting exactly what you always were - 30 missions' worth of sigleplayer campaign, plus the multiplayer game. Yes, it is a profit making technique. Making a sequel to an already successful...

Weaver that big ball solutions was great. Here are a couple of my useless contraptions: 4-Legged walker. Very depressing to watch, it tries and it tries, but it just can't get over the bricks. http://FantasticContraption.com/?designId=2889854 Trebuchet. Not good for anything, but it does fling the h...

Re: Metal Gear Solid 4
Now I've only ever played the original MGS, but Im pretty sure that in that one he came out of retirement in the beginning, and then in the end, after some painfully corny cut scene, he rides off into the sunset after deciding to change his life and stop killing people. Obviously he had a change of ...

Re: Cover
Everything about it just seems terribly contrasting. It looks like it's divided into several parts to me - The top swirly third of the sky, the middle third of the sky with the lasers, the bottom third, the mountain, and then the bird, all of which look completely separate from all the other parts (...

Re: "Green computing"
You could save much, much more power just by putting the thing in standby every time you leave it for more than 15 minutes. The amount of effort it takes is equal to hitting <windows> <up> <enter> <enter> when you leave it, and pushing the power button when you get back to it. Plus the whole 5 secon...

Just ordered it. Final cost including shipping: $800. Thanks to all for the help.
I also did go with that Antec 650w psu, thanks for that suggestion. My entire order is now rebate-free.

Re: Need something to buy
If your going to get an aircraft, Id go with an autogyro (aka gyrocopter). They cost around $40k for a kit, or twice that for a pre-built one. Not to mention they're safer than a plane and especially a chopper, and get better gas mileage than a chopper. They can also land nearly vertically, can fly ...

Alright, thanks a lot for all your inputs. Im only using about 80 gigs if HD space right now so Im not too concerned about that... also, I know its generally not a good idea to skimp on the mobo. I was actually going to get a more expensive one when I found this, which has literally identical circui...

Re: Need something to buy
I dont know if anyone actually manufactures the things, so you might have a had time getting your hands on one, but I think a coil gun aka gauss gun would be pretty awesome
http://www.thinkbotics.com/military.htm
The only way I know to get one is to buy the components and make it yourself.

On the bright side, there is a massive improvement in the rendering. Just open that stupid pics go! thread and look at that ridiculous epilepsy post with FF2, then FF3.

Ok. I really didnt think the cache size would affect performance significantly, but since its only $5 more I might as well get it.
