Re: Why The New Interface?

I don't understand why the C interface can bring multicompiler support when the C++ couldn't.

Drag reclaim is a must, self-reclaim too, but I propose a more general and mod-friendly solution: I don't know if Spring already does that, or how the commands are done at all, but: In object-oriented programming terms, whenever you select something, or drag a area to select all the objects, this ac...

Sometimes I think the devs should just find a way to add support to user made variables.

Instead of installing antivirus, just use your computer with more conscience, and teach those who also use the same computer to use it carefully too.

It's very possible to use a computer w/o running into malware, even on Windows.

Linux will probably run in a virtualized enviroment as a guest OS of the PS3 OS/firmware. This means it won't be able to access all the parts of the hardware, specially the game running code. Thus code injection is, in theory, impossible. If you can do all the things you need with the remaining comp...

C'mon smoth, it's a nice AND and original idea, which truly is something that's lacking today. There's no need of bashing. If it's something the devs won't ever make because it would require a total reengineering, I'm sure everyone(ok, almost) would comprehend their decision, you and picasso include...

The dev version is just the svn one. You need to install an SVN client, make it point to https://taspring.clan-sy.com/svn/spring and grab the trunk tree. Oh, latest compilation? They don't always compile, much less might work as intented; just because it's the lastest, it doesn't mean it's any bette...

Yeah, there are a lot of nice library projects out there.

But which ones have a GPL compatible license, are under active development and work stable on many different platforms?

Easy to use, good documentation and low dependency on other projects are great pluses too.

Kylix is dead/was killed.

The only IDE I can think of is Lazarus, and it's multiplatform. Freepascal is a good compiler too.

Lua support is indeed planned, and I'm almost sure it will make to the engine. The actual problem is when. Like D45 said, it's a pain to do right now. Also there are another stuff to be solved, like the full multiplatform support, along with other things that are part of the Spring 1.0 Roadmap plan....

With all these MSVC++ issues, I won't be surprised if the other platforms get the game working faster than on Windows.

Who said M$ isn't helping the open source software; most Linux distros are less than 1.5 GB ;)

Maybe one day we might make our own Spring + Spring SDK livecd.

I find it impressive how much the coding improved since I last saw it many versions ago. There aren't many people in the world who keep that interested in a coding project for such a long time, specially when you start from zero. You should also look for audio formats that don't need much processing power to decode their content, after all we are playing these files a lot of times a second. WAV may be big, but the PCM it holds is very lightweight since it's uncompressed.

Re: Mod enhancing suggestions.

(+) Nanolathe color changing. Would also change the color of the build-up frames. (-) In addition, the ability to replace with some other effect, such as a blue flame or something to simulate welding. Sounds good. Would the colour be unit specific, or mod specific? Unit specific is better, that way...

Just a small prototype of a gui I'm planning, there's just the minimap, the minimap mode buttons and some other building blocks. This the 192px version. Hopefully it can be all modular in the final version.
