Re: Faster than light?
There's another simple answer to why nothing can move faster than light: at superluminal speeds it would be possible to violate causality, create paradoxes, send messages back in time to yourself, and generally screw up reality. See this page for an explanation of how that works: Relativity and Caus...

Re: DWARF FORTRESS
this makes all combat boil down to bopping them on the head. Not really IMO. Limbs are still functional - you can whack off an opponent's leg to knock them over and permanently slow them. Similarly you can chop off their arms to disarm them (no pun intended). And while blood loss is no longer a lea...

Re: The best Civilization game?
Anyone played civ 5 a lot? I'm enjoying a lot of civ 5 right now, though I still haven't tried multiplayer. There was a patch semi-recently which had a huge effect on balance. I think that helped a lot as there are now many more viable strategies. My biggest beef with Civ 5 right now is how empire-...

Re: Starcraft 2
cheese is fail vs a decent player This is something I hear a lot and must disagree with. Having watched dozens and dozens of top-level games, I see a *lot* of cheese which succeeds. TLO in particular is notorious for cheesing and getting away with it, even against pro players who are actively scout...

Re: Congratz Dizekat !!
Very fun and addicting game - just bought the full version. I tend to experience crashes after playing for a while, though. Eventually the level fills with so many enemies that my framerate begins to drop significantly (GeForce 450 GLS), and then it crashes. Do I just have wacky game settings or som...

Re: May be worth considering donations
It might be possible to get the models licensed to Spring as a whole, in which case all mods could use them.I just worry what happens when somebody starts making derivative versions of your TAIP-free Balanced Annihilation re-make...

Re: Starcraft 2
In sc2 I miss that you can not just watch the replays of the pros ingame. You have to go to a site and put the replays in a folder path that totally sucks. I want to be able to just dl and watch the replays of big torunaments ingame. Are you sure you're doing it right? I can download a replay and j...

Re: Dwarf TTF Project
Personally the tile size I'm most comfortable playing with (due to limited screen space) is 16x16. At that scale there's no discernible difference between the images in your post. At 32x32 there's a tiny difference (I think I'd prefer the 2nd font), but the tiles are so large that it's difficult to ...

Is mex efficiency global or is it a bonus which is only applied if a particular mex survives for at least 10 minutes?

Re: The Curious Case of DSDHosts.
8v8 DSD is great. Not only do you get a wonderful meatshield to hide behind, you've also got 7 other teammates to blame for failures! In addition, there are no pesky raiders to district you from teching; the map is so congested that you needn't worry about lamers sneaking around your defensive wall....

Re: FPS Gamer's Mouse Guide - Legit?
For me, twitch shooting is much much easier with mouse accel, it's just much more difficult to track. Everyone says this because they've never taken the time to master it. IMO, this is spot on. I played Quake 2 and 3 quite a bit and always used mouse acceleration. It was great for making split-seco...

Is it just me, or does Starcraft II's macro feel like it takes a lot more micro than the previous game? As I play Starcraft II I'm reminded of why I loved TA so much in the first place... Instead of clicking "Build Marine" every 30 seconds for the entire game, I could just put factory on r...

Re: Starcraft 2
Hadn't even started the first mission before I encountered a serious bug. With the Starcraft II audio options set to 5.1 surround sound, the tutorial instructions don't play at all. Lips moving, but no sound coming out (background music and other effects were working, though). Fortunately I could ju...

Aaron created the map Apline Way. Refer to his release post on this forum. Why is the creator of L3DT listed as the author? Did I miss something?

Re: DWARF FORTRESS
The latest version of DF is a little skewed toward armor, but your dwarves still aren't invincible. I've lost a couple dwarves in full adamantine armor to large groups of goblins. They didn't actually die in the attack, but they were wounded and died a couple days later. Oh, and I had one dwarf in a...

Re: I wish to utter a complain
Lines of units are efficient. They allow you to bring all your units into firing range at approximately the same time, so that your army is working together rather than as individuals or small groups. This is true even in modern warfare. Static lines of defense (and offense) can also be the result o...

Re: DWARF FORTRESS
I don't know, I've always been a fan of the above ground activities. I prefer to avoid running out of trees, plants, fishing grounds, etcetera. That's the beauty of the new version. Trees, plants, fishing, and wildlife are all plentiful in the caverns. Granted, there aren't quite as many trees unde...

Re: DWARF FORTRESS
I also recommend waiting for the next bug fix before starting a succession game. The current version is mostly stable, but military dwarves refuse to use crossbows - and that can quickly lead to death. I just lost my first fort in the new version: [SPOILERS] A forgotten beast showed up, and I planne...
