The SJ game was amazing. Just a side thought, but while OTA has been played for years, XTA has only been really played since Spring came out. Since very few people know its quirks, in XTA tactics that require a lot of skill (such as raiding), fail miserably at this point. On the other hand, tactic t...

We can have it off by default, if people think it would piss people off. Infact, we can have it so you set exactly how many messages are read out aloud. i.e. Resource related (i.e. metal approaching full, you are losing energy rapidly etc.) Combat Related (i.e. We are under attack, incoming nuclear...

I see your point.

By the way, a few minutes after my last post I managed to get into a game, which I just uploaded onto FileUniverse.

I tried to adhere to your request, and tried to raid as much as possible. You might want to check it out.

I would try and play a game like this, but it's nearly impossible to find a host. :( I have an idea of my own. Min3mat, I've noticed that you are able to host games, so you should not have to much trouble getting one up. What if you played a game of XTA and rushed, raided, and used interesting tacti...

There are several reasons why I prefer XTA: First of all, I have not been playing OTA very long, so the tactics have not been imprinted into my mind. However, I am somewhat opposed to the strategy focusing more around missile units and flashes. In addition, XTA has a slightly bigger focus on level t...

One interesting thing I notice is that many of the people who like this idea play mostly XTA, while many of the people who dislike it prefer OTA. This somewhat makes sense, since OTA is focused around small maps where the addition will remove much of what the gameplay focuses around (micromanagement...

It might be pretty easy to make it drop the unit without an extra button. If yo u click attack, the plane checks to see if it's holding a unit and if so, drops it.

Another thing I can see with it is picking up enemy units and dropping them on each other.

One thing you can do is give the humans ressurection chambers. Whenever a human dies, you can rebuild it very quickly at a chamber for a small cost. That way, when both reach the limit, humans come back almost instantly while cyborgs have to create a new unit. (Could somebody make it that whenever a...

Hosting Problem

Whenever I try to host, nobody is able to connect. In addition, the test always fails. I have forwarded ports 8452 (both TCP and UDP), have the latest patch (50b2), and I've specified the local IP.

Is there anything else I need to do/check for?

T hing is, if we balance it to normal maps, planes are gonna return to be a little too powerful on epic, but if we align them to epic, they will become totally worthless in normal games. The outcome doesn't matter much to him, but is devastating for the others. True. Perhaps planes could do two dif...

One major point of debate is to define the terms. Since you are both looking at the terms in different ways (Storm seeing small maps and OTA, 10053r seeing epic and XTA), there is no possible way to argue whether planes are over/underpowered. (Off topic, but one of the great things about TA is how i...

Maybe it would work (as well as all units with cloaking) if cloaked units showed up on radar but weren't auto targetted. You would have to select them manually.

Basically, they can add on all the units they like, but have to leave the original units with their stats in-tact, so you don't get confused between TA mods, but rather have some familiarity. Two problems: 1. If the primary mod people end up choosing is unbalanced, all of the modders are stuck. The...

If the main thing you are worried about is the fact beginners might get confused, then all you have to do is make sure they know the difference between games. For example, you can have a blurb in the batle window that describes the basics of the particular mod, or perhaps a tutorial that must be pla...

The best thing would probably be to make sure people are AWARE of the mod differences before they can play.

For (a bad) example, perhaps you could not play a mod until you read a document listed the changes from OTA/XTA.

Also, there should be a well designed mod-switcher.

Many people worlwide have played total annihilation. They still have faint memory of what units rock, what unit are usless, that HLT are close ranged, that Guardian are built by level 1 cons, etc... That's why OTA must be the default mod. So people who are used to TA can play Spring and says "...

Actually, in XTA flakkers are able to fire at ground units, Spring or not.
