i also installed warzone a few months ago the same way but i'd rather have spring's source use a more familiar system i.e. ./configure make then checkinstall so you have a package that you can easily upgrade / remove.

if your wired networking doesn't work then you need to shoot your computer with a shotgun. Wireless is understandable though depending on the card. You should hop in the #ubuntu channel on freenode.

A UI Suggestion..perhaps a thing grey line seperating columns? not sure how hard/easy that would be though.

I don't think hollow is focusing on gui atm but if you had some ideas for the placement of things i'm sure it wouldn't be to hard to implement after he gets multiplayer up and running which is top priority.

trepan only needs to provide a base for easy to write themes to be added the TA Spring community I would hope is more than capable to make the rest. Not me of course..unless you prefer stick figures ;p

I think instead of overloading the preferences you could have columns and when you click the column label it sorts by that column in desecnding order..click again ascending order etc. if you don't know what i'm talking about i'll find an example.

I don't think they should be square...as Af said it's more 'visually pleasing'..but that should probably be optional where you can put in custom images or whatever with different gui sets.
