Note that on many systems only root can nice negative. This can be set in /etc/security/limits.conf though.

Re: official best framerate linux distro for SPRING78b21(rts)
Don't feed the trolls, but.. You prove that you do not have a clue of what you're talking about. Undoubtedly Gentoo will lead the field in most FPS since you compile optimized for your own march instead of using predigested binary blobs, which squeezes those few fps out there. Case closed. Thread us...

This thread is useless since everybody just votes for his favorite distro. That, and it's emmanuels and his twisted french cynicism. At least I hope it is...

Re: setting audio device
Add something like this to your .asoundrc pcm.!default { card 0 } Not sure if that'll work, but it can't be much different. Change card 0 accordingly. This will change the default card for all apps tho. If Spring supports setting a specific ALSA device, this could also be solved. Dunno about that

Re: Sync Error: invalid headingToVectorTable checksum
Yup, that was indeed the problem. Spring does not seem to like -march=amdfam10 (K10 or AMD's Phenom series)jK wrote:try to compile spring with a different -march, i.e. scons configure arch=i686
Thanks for the help. Any way to fix the issue?

Sync Error: invalid headingToVectorTable checksum
I'm being greeted by a dialog box containing this error when I launch my recently-compiled Spring (Gentoo, Kernel 2.6.28 on AMD64, GCC 4.3.2, Spring 0.77b5)
Any ideas? Console log is empty and it doesn't even get to start its infolog.

Re: Implementing FastMath
2. This is completely unrelated to -ffast-math I am no developer myself, but as far as I can see, this thread is about replacing math functions with faster but possibly less-accurate implementations. This also also one of the, if not the main thing that -ffast-math does aswell. Ergo, the possible i...

I had a sound-related crash a few months back aswell, but I don't really remember the details or how I fixed it. Try searching this forum tho.

Re: Implementing FastMath
Don't touch flankingbonus; that needs unparalleled accuracy! Discussions on the GCC mailing list revealed different perceptions about the implications of the -ffast-math option. For the tests shown here, I included -ffast-math in the evolutionary mix. I've performed experiments that show how -ffast...

Re: I think some congrats are in order!
Thanks, it's rare to hear such things, even when you have over 2 million users (as Wine, my other project, does). I think that's due to users not really noticing the guys behind the repos. I mean, the website tells you who maintains it, but that's about it. If you were going to thank that guy, you'...

GCC 4.1.2, as stated in the starting post.
edit: Oh joy, the new b3 ebuild depends on >=GCC 4.2. This blows.

Re: Error in the Build script
My paste already contains the relevant part, whereas Cremass' only seems to be the unfinished jobs after the actual error occured. If that's not what you meant, here's a full paste of everything: http://pastebin.com/m37540717 btw. I noticed that it now detects Java and does not hard-depend on it any...

Re: Error in the Build script
This has nothing to do with your CFLAGS. The build script sets its own flags. I just upgraded portage to 2.1.4.5. This magically seems to fix this bug. edit: more likely this was the new Spring ebuild. Sorry I got this confused. Of course another build error just had to appear..: /var/tmp/portage/ga...

Re: Springlobby fails to compile
On a related note, the Springlobby ebuild should use the bittorrent USE-flag instead of creating its own disable-torrent . Also needs to invert the behavior if this was to be fixed. Same goes for disable-sound . Invert it and name it just sound Not that it really matters, but this way you're in lin...

Re: Springlobby fails to compile
Looks like the update to boost 1.35.0 broke rb_libtorrent. Can't even recompile it rb_libtorrent says: configure: error: Unable to find Boost.Filesystem library, currently this is required. Can't figure out what USE flag causes boost to compile in Boost.Filesystem... Cremuss, give me your USE flags ...

Springlobby fails to compile
Springlobby always compiled fine, but the latest one fails. (latest as in, latest in the Spring overlay) /usr/lib64/libtorrent.so: undefined reference to `boost::recursive_mutex::do_lock()' /usr/lib64/libtorrent.so: undefined reference to `boost::detail::condition_impl::condition_impl()' /usr/lib64/...

Error in the Build script
Spring fails to compile on my Gentoo. /var/tmp/portage/games-strategy/spring-0.77_p2/work/spring_0.77b2/rts/lib/hpiutil2/scrambledfile.cpp:1: error: bad value (native) for -march= switch It's trying to use -march=native, that however is only possbile with GCC 4.2+ (correct me if I'm wrong), not with...
