Re: many small rooms > one large one

I had another idea in the opposite direction: what would happen if all the players were to be made spectators as soon as the game starts?

Re: Remove some native AIs from spring?

Just delete them all in springlobby like I did and let the afk AI devs develop them in their own safe space, where they won't bother any one.

Springlobby "Host new battle" improvements

Would anyone be completely outraged if the "Autopaste description" option were to be removed? It seems that all it does is paste battle's name into battleroom chat whenever someone joins. Oh, and it clutters the codebase. Current window: hostbattle.png The wxFormBuilder 3.9.0 (version is important!)...

Re: Remove some native AIs from spring?

Isn't CircuitAI made for ZeroK? Would anyone really suffer if all engine AIs were wiped out?

Edit: CircuitAI + 104.0.1-1218 + s44 test-5474 = "ui/customdialogs.cpp:215 Engine exited with nonzero code 11". Nothing particular in infolog, it just exited.

Re: many small rooms > one large one

Thank you all for extensive feedback. If we learned one thing from the engine ban than its people dislike restrictions. So thinking u could revive it with more restrictions is just... If you want people on the official "chat" lobby stop the restrictions dont bring jn new ones!! Join the resistance! ...

Re: A few problems

It did help, there was (is?) an issue where refreshing the archives upon joining a room running on a freshly baked git commit does not make that commit available.

Technically yes… delete the …/pool/ and …/rapid/ directories. Maybe also …/packages/

The …/ stands for ~/.spring/ on unix systems. I don't know about Windows.
Only pool/ and packages/ are relevant, rapid/ is just a cache for what is available (local? and remote).

Because some are downloaded via rapid and do not exist as plain archives https://springrts.com/wiki/Rapid

Autohosts operating non-downloadable engines

Attention hosters!

There are now 9 autohosts running non-downloadable maintenance engines (see https://springrts.com/dl/buildbot/default/maintenance/) and there have now been multiple complains in #newbies about not being able to download.

many small rooms > one large one

Hello Since the official lobby seems to be at its lowest point wrt. player count, I think this is the perfect time to discuss globally applying the <=8 players rule. Together with this I'd also suggest limiting spectators, to a total of 12 people per room (bot accounts excluded). With a given amount...

Re: SpringLobby 0.267 released!

Also, what new players... Noobs were hosting their own game rather than joining battleroom and accidentally setting themselves as spectator and getting confused? Really? You are overestimating what noobs are capable of. They don't even know how to poke holes in their firewall to enable self-hosting...

Re: SpringLobby 0.267 released!

The start/spectate button change was done to improve experience of new players. You can still start a pure-bot match by

1) Join an autohost
2) become spec
3) add bots
3) !start

Re: Engine download not possible

Old builds are removed. Here is the list of available ones https://springrts.com/dl/buildbot/default/maintenance/

It would be good if there was automatic checking for the build expiry, I think one of my hosts had this problem recently.

Re: If Microsoft buys github

What I did was to stop actively participating on Github about 6 months ago, most of which was related to Springlobby. As a result, there now lies a repository on framagit that is ~35 commits ahead of the springlobby/springlobby one on Github.

Be the change you want to see in others.

Re: Its time to remove the engine restrictions

I agree with Megatron's analysis, this was (and still is) a failure in community management (or lack thereof...), but remember that engine versions were "banned" in the past without this much uproar. What should have been done: - ban problematic people (!!!) - Implement matchmaking - Make matchmakin...
