Re: Engine fork and Ingame Community
I understand it is sad that such bad blood festered between official spring, led by abma and the bar fork, led by ivand. However, we should also be glad that, in this case, open source worked exactly as designed: When the official spring went in a direction that didn't satisfy some people, they were...

Re: VertexArray
Well, yesterday I told myself I ought to update Kernel Panic to the Spring 106 that was announced on the frontpage of https://springrts.com a couple months ago. Since then, I've caught up on reading enough forum and discord threads to gather that the situation about engine releases, branches and for...

Re: Feesablity of Spring as a engine for original games
is capable of producing RTS Games that don't perfectly fit into the Sci-Fi mould or is it capable of being used to branch into other genres like fantasy? It doesn't support smooth mesh deformation, that makes it more suited to Sci-Fi than fantasy. is it acceptable to use the forums to assemble a te...

Re: help with customPlayerKeys
If it's like custom team options, you don't need the [customPlayerKeys] {}
In the script, declare them like regular player options.
Well, they need to be inside the [PLAYERX] {} though!

Yes!
Though I mostly use customTeamKeys, and I don't remember well but maybe there was an issue with customPlayerKeys not being transmitted.

Re: Where are all the games at?
i meant like all the games Many old Spring games are sadly not playable anymore, because the engine changed and the games were not updated. And even if you found those old engines, you couldn't use them because the infrastructure changed. And porting old games to newer engine is hard even for exper...

Re: Kernel Panic 4.9
It annoys me how compulsory Github has become, I don't like that kind of centralised monoculture.
And if I were to move KP to some sort of repository, I would first want to recreate an history of past versions.
Say, does rapid support any git repo, or only github?

Kernel Panic 4.9
Spring 105 was released half a year ago, and broke Kernel Panic gadgets and widgets. springfiles.com went down a year or a month ago, and broke Kernel Panic download links. So a new release of Kernel Panic was needed! Kernel Panic 4.9 out! Complete Installer (Windows) Zipped Mod, Maps, and Launcher ...

Re: I am politely asking will Lua widgets break with future engine updates because I would like to know
In theory, a mitigation layer could be created - in lua. That's usually what I do, in the hope that newer KP can also be run under older engines. Though, since I don't really test that, not sure how well that works. But in practicality most of those things broke are not used/developed on anymore an...

Re: I am politely asking will Lua widgets break with future engine updates because I would like to know
To be honest, the version 105 whose changelog only says: -- 105.0 -------------------------------------------------------- - special maintenance release: contains only bugfixes introduced some entirely unnecessary breaking changes of Lua, such as the switching of the 7th and 8th argument of Spring.G...

GetTeamLuaAI changes
Before 105, GetTeamLuaAI returned "" for teams with no LuaAI In 105, GetTeamLuaAI returns something that doesn't even has a type for teams with no LuaAI Not "", not even nil, but some weird thingy lua has trouble to handle. Thankfully, it appears to be falsy and considered ~= fro...

Re: Next engine features poll
1) Kernel Panic (playerbase: 0) 2) I would prioritize preserving backward compatibility over performance advantages. 3) The engine is already open source. So, if anyone wanted extra performance in exchange of more complex code, it was always possible, by writing C++ in the engine instead of Lua gadg...

I'm sad that every time I see bitcoin or other crypto-money mentioned, people seem to only talk about investment, and never about using it as an actual money, for, you know, exchange of goods or services.

Now, let me tell you. I've known bobthedinosaur for a looong time, back from our Wormhole Productions days, along with Gnome. And from the writing style alone, I can tell: This is not from the bobthedinosaur I know. So, why are you so intent on helping that A.G.I. get out? How comes all the informat...

Re: The end of the maintenance branch
No matter if you like it or not, 95% of the tech and content talk has moved to Discord, and that is one of the reasons the forum feels wasteland-ish for the last few years. With reasoning like that, this open source utopia should be immediately abandonned and all energy redirected to pivoting to mo...
