Re: Engine fork and Ingame Community

To be frank, my personal opinion is that Spring needs new blood that has more time and is more invested than the current management. If it were up to me, I would transfer control of the Spring project, (both repository and domain) to the most active developers. These are not random people but figure...

Re: The end of the maintenance branch

As I'm not active enough to make an informed decision, I defer to ivand (and others in this thread) in this matter as I trust his (and their) judgement.
I'll do my best to help getting what's necessary in the release.
I'll elaborate more on how we're going to do it later, stay tuned.

[misc] Check out this talk about Spring games and Steam in FOSDEM 2020

https://fosdem.org/2020/schedule/event/gamedev_spring_steam/

The talk was held by me (hokomoko, engine dev) in FOSDEM 2020 in Brussels.

I hope you find it entertaining and/or educational :-)

Re: Conference talks about Spring and Open Source in Brussels

So the first talk I messed up a bit, finished early and forgot a bunch of things I wanted to say.
The second, however, I think is much nicer, and while you probably know most things there, you might enjoy it.

Thanks malric & Tim for coming!

Conference talks about Spring and Open Source in Brussels

I'm going to present two talks in FOSDEM 2020 in Brussels. The first one is about the process of preparing for Zero-K's release on Steam and how it affected the entire ecosystem. The second one is about open source game projects in general and why some succeed in bringing contributors while others d...

Re: FOSDEM 2020 - Game Dev Room

It's not a comparison in any way, just the chain of events. The story of Evo's release had immense effect on the community, the development of the engine and the development of Zero-K.

In many ways, the real misfortune of Evo was the fact that it was the first.

Re: FOSDEM 2020 - Game Dev Room

We didn't have license issues really, it was more UX/UI and organisational issues.

I think I'm a bit more fond of the first one, although the audience is not necessarily people who are already in successful projects

Re: FOSDEM 2020 - Game Dev Room

I'm seriously considering doing either of two talks: 1) Why would anyone do that? - For some arcane reason contributors spend their precious time on open source game projects. Why do they do this? And more importantly: What can you do to make them do it on your project? 2) Spring & Steam, an Ody...

Re: deprecate .tif support?

It wasn't a big hassle to compile with libtiff, I was just surprised that it is used.
Probably far less effort than updating maps, so I don't think it should be deprecated.

Forboding Angel wrote: 10 Sep 2019, 03:50 Just delete them all. @hoko, doesn't it make more sense to just use a game with a built in luaai for that sort of testing?
No, I want to test the C/Cpp interface, not the AI.
I can't do that with a lua AI.

Re: Remove some native AIs from spring?

It's good to have maintained AIs in the repo to easily test that things compile OK and to ease shipment.
